Inside the Mitsuwa food court. Flavor is good, but there’s not much filling, and it’s mostly rice. Disappointing

– Grilled eel onigiri ($3.60): 6/10
– Spicy chicken onigiri ($3.10): 6/10

Omusubi Gonbei is such a hidden gem! It’s the perfect spot when you want something quick, fresh, and comforting. Their rice balls are always perfectly seasoned and wrapped just right — you can really taste the quality of the ingredients. I love how you can mix and match different fillings, and everything feels homemade.

The service is friendly and fast, and the place has a clean, welcoming atmosphere even though it’s more of a grab-and-go style. There’s a nice girl who has fair skin and nice black hair- she’s always very helpful and kind, even when they’re busy.

I always leave feeling happy and satisfied. Definitely recommend it if you’re craving authentic Japanese comfort food!

They have a wide variety of riceballs, with great savory taste. Been here multiple times and always get great food.
The short hispanic girl with short black hair was very helpful at the counter. Definitely should stop by if your in Mitsuwa.
My favorite is the spicy chicken.

My new onigiri spot. Went there for a quick bite but was blown away with the flavors so I ended up going back and buying some for home.

There were a lot of people but the line moved pretty fast since the employees worked quickly and were efficient. The employee who helped me (shout out to the worker with black hair and fair skin) was so kind! Her recommendations definitely hit home as everyone who ate them, loved them.

Even though it’s out of the way for me, I would definitely go back!

Date of visit and prices as of 6/1/25. They sell a variety of Onigiri (Japanese Rice Balls). My favorites are Spicy Tuna and Spicy Bomb. They also sell a variety of other snacks, last time there was clam soup, i guess it varies by season, but the onigiri is their main product. Located inside the Mitsuwa Supermarket, at the food court. Take note it’s hard to get a seat at the food court, especially on weekends.

Omusubi Gonbei specializes in Omusubi, or rice ball. They open earlier than other restaurants in the Mistuwa food court, so if you get there too early and hungry, you can try these guys. It is interesting how gourmet rice balls are becoming popular, who can justify their high price point for rice balls nowadays with its good demand for them.

This place, like all the others in Mitsuwa, is cash only. They have ATM machine if you forgot to bring cash. They offer many varieties of gourmet rice balls, and they are made with Japanese seaweed. They all looked really good, it was not easy to choose.

We tried The Bomb, Cha-Shu-Pork, Fried Oyster, Spam, Spicy Tuna and Mentaiko. They were all pretty good. It is a nice size, not too small, with good amount of fillings for most of them. I did like their gourmet rice balls, I liked the big size, and I thought the quality was high. I can see the price point of their items are not so bad when you consider the size and quality. I would like to try more of their rice ball creations. Read my full review of this spot and food on my food blog, foodlovergilr.

The salmon onigiri was good.
However, after completing my payment, I was asked to pay an additional $0.15 for a simple paper wrap just to place the food in. I clarified twice that this was not a shopping or reusable bag, yet the charge was still requested.

This is not about the amount, but about an incorrect practice that should be corrected.

Lowkey obsessed with this spot. The service was amazing, the short Hispanic girl with the black hair was literally the sweetest. She helped me pick my order and was super patient and chill about it. The spicy tuna and the chicken onigiri are top tier, like I keep thinking about them after I leave. Definitely recommend pulling up here if you want something fire and fresh.

My go to spot when in the area. The portions are perfect and the prices are hard to beat.

Went recently and they were sold out of their “bomb” and was a little bummed. One of the workers over heard and quickly made one on the spot. Forever grateful for you and the staff!

Small Onigiri with barely any meat. One of the employees charged my 9 yr old son for 3 onigiris when he only got 1. I confronted him and he didn’t even have the courtesy to say “I’m sorry” rude and classless.
