Overall, the place has a very mom-and-pop feel, which I’m not saying is a bad thing. The BBQ is quite good. The brisket is especially good with a unique mild sweetness that I haven’t found in other BBQ places. My wife really liked the smoked chicken. One interesting feature is that they have a play area for the kids that is packed with toy cars, dolls, and train sets. Our boys (7 and 5) loved it.
I rated the decor as a 1… but, to be honest, who goes to a BBQ place for the decor? I want good food at a good price, which is what I got. The service is good… the guy that was behind the register did a great job of making us feel welcome and accommodated. It felt like a nice family friendly place and we will be back.
I have been to some of the best BBQ places in the United States, and although this is not the absolute top of the list, it’s in my top 5.
My meal was a pulled pork with brisket added, mashed potatoes, and sweet corn, and my girlfriends (now fiance’) meal was the Cheeseburger wrap with sweet corn. The pork was nicely flavored, not over powering but not at all bland. It had good texture and easily took every sauce that was paired with it. The brisket was chopped as per my request and was sweet with a nice overall smokey flavor. Again it went well with every sauce they provided. Although the corn was a tad bland for me, it is not meant to be the focus of the meal. Finally the mashed potatoes were very good especially since they are made from scratch. Not sticky as glue but not watery either, good flavor and texture.
The Cheeseburger Wrap was fantastic, and I would have to say that it is well worth any drive. The hamburger is made from brisket before it’s cooked so it has the consistency of hamburger, then its smoked and it is absolutely amazing, one of the best I have ever had, and I know my burgers.
I spoke with Jaymer (the owner) and although I can see where he might get randy with someone who brings their bad day into the restaurant, he was a joy to talk to. My girlfriend and I will be back many many times, they have earned my BBQ business.
Since the time I wrote this, I have been back on many occasions. One thing I can say is that the food quality is consistent and always enough. I have a 15 year old boy (who can eat a refrigerator in a single sitting) and he has put away several types of ribs. My son who is a consummate eater not only can’t eat all of his ribs, but will guard them from anyone else eating them like a mama bear protects her young.
My daughter was a vegetarian, BUT would only eat the steaks I make and anything that Jaymer makes.
The selection of types of food, combinations of food and selection is amazing, anyone who says there is not enough on the menu has either never been to Jaymer Que BBQ, they are lying, or has been to one of those places that over inundate their menu with so much crap none of it is any good. Jaymer Que BBQ has more than enough to satisfy any BBQ enthusiast, and has offerings for those that are forced to tag along to enjoy.
Also appreciated that they have sauce at the table, unlike many other establishments these days. Their bbq sauce at the table is more vinegar based like north Carolina style and was very good. Service was very friendly and they even insisted I try the collards before getting them.
I’ll be back soon to try the pork and the ribs, but I would recommend them on the brisket alone.
Those folks who are posting negative reviews probably just don’t like the wall murals and positive atmoshere. If you want authentic slow cooked BBQ, this is the place.
Rub on all meats if good enough, but Sauces are very good as well.
