We visited African Palace for the first time today, we were excited to try some Nigerian food for the first time.
We ordered beef egusi soup with pounded yam and chicken with jollof rice and fried plantain. The soup was really tasty and full of flavour. The yam went perfectly with the soup too – a really nice dish! The chicken was tasty and the fried plantain is always nice on the side.
We will come back to try some more when we are in the area again. Thanks for delicious food and friendly service

We ordered Amala with Ewedu and assorted meat, Chicken Suya, Poundo, Chicken Shawarma, Banga Soup, and Goat Meat Suya online.
The Amala with Ewedu was great, rich in flavour and very enjoyable. it came with 4 well cooked assorted meats. That said, the portion of soup served with it was quite small, so you’ll likely need to order extra. The Banga Soup with Poundo was okay in taste, but again, the soup quantity was limited.
The Chicken Shawarma was disappointing. It came wrapped in a flatbread, not the shawarma bread and had a lot of chicken bones inside, which really took away from the experience
Both the Chicken Suya and Goat Meat Suya were also interesting; the meat tasted more fried than grilled, and the suya spice wasn’t infused but just sprinkled on top with raw onions. The goat meat, even though well fried smelled off, we decided it was best not to continue consumption. Each meal is pricey for the quality and portions provided.
Overall: The Amala and Ewedu are worth trying, but everything else felt subpar, especially considering the high cost.

My boyfriend and I visited Bristol and checked out this restaurant because it’s Nigerian. The food was definitely 5 star. Very very flavourful and tasty. I’m Ghanaian and of course our Jollof is the best and I hate to admit it but this Nigerian Jollof “slaps”. They didn’t have plantain or coleslaw to my disappointment but the waitress was very apologetic. The Nkwobi was delicious however be warned it’s not for the faint hearted. It was very very very spicy. The suya was acceptable. It was tasty but I don’t think it was freshly made. I suppose these are some of the challenges of running an African fastfood restaurant in the UK. The owners were very friendly. I will definitely be back again.

Very nice and welcoming restaurant, friendly restaurant. My son didn’t eat but she played and carried my son on her leg, whilst we were eating. The food is not expensive and guess what the food is delicious, my husband ordered egusi and pounded yam, I ordered Ayamase and I can’t find any fault. It’s home away from home.

I visited this place because I was craving Nigerian food. I had Afang soup with fish. It was tasty but my God the portion was so small and terrible. The person selling the food, was a pathetic brute. Never understood my order and rude to the core. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!

Service is poor took a friend .they charge everything separate which makes it cost more.l was dissapointed the associated mea t had goat and cow skin no shaki…also to mention it cost £13-15 for soup that come with 4 pieces of meat which is pathetic. Pounded yam £5 a small ball it cost me nearly 50 including palm wine.

We ordered for some poundo and vegetable soup, as well as isi ewu (goat meat) on uber eats. The goat meat was really tasty and soft and rightly peppery. Before ordering, I called the numbers on their website and on google to ask if they also provide swallow alongside their soups, because other places I have ordered from provide swallow along side the soups (you do not need to buy it separately). They didn’t pick any of my calls and not to take the chance, I ordered swallow separately and when we unwrapped it at home, there was a very visible long, black strand of hair glaring right back at us from the top of our swallow.

I was in Bristol for a business conference with a friend, and we thought to try this place out.
IT WAS HORRIBLE!
Loud music from a TV assaulted our ears as we entered, and the place just looked so unkempt, but maybe the food would compensate, right? Wrong!
We sat for almost 15 minutes, nobody came to attend to us. Then someone brings us a plate of food, we hadn’t even ordered anything yet!
Then we thought… maybe this was one of those naija restaurants where service is poor but food turns out awesome…..I laugh in spoilt chicken and tasteless jollof. One bite of the chicken and I just couldn’t continue. The cutlet was dirty, as were the tables on which they were put on.
We cut our losses, covered their food with serviette (at least they had that one), and went to Nandos.
Never again!

Unfortunately the food was really over priced so it was a shock to see the ridiculously small portion sizes too. Paid 45£ (40 without delivery) for Jollof rice (box was just over half filled), over fried beef so partially inedible and fried meat in a small cup – THE SUYA WAS NICE. I would expect impeccable tasting food at that cost and size so this would be fixable by reducing the prices or increasing the portion sizes. This would bring less attention to the quality. Personally I think both are needed. £40 for a 1 person meal is crazy and then feeling like I paid for Gucci and got SHEIN quality. Btw Nothing wrong with SHEIN, if that’s what you know you picked.
This could be a nice place to eat from if they took on board what the customer reviews are saying – I do hope so as there are only a few Nigerian/west African food places in Bristol but it won’t be that way forever – it can take just 1 good competitor to change the game!
