Do not be fooled that this hidden gem is located at a gas station! A group of us were randomly in the area and used google to look for a place to eat when we found Mr. Cesar’s restaurant. The food was some of the best Mexican food I’ve had! Mr. Cesar was super friendly even though we came in with a large group when they were near closing. We came back a second time on the way back from Rockford because I was craving it. The tacos (I love the chicharron tacos), the pozole and the mole chicken were some of the best I’ve had. We’re far up north and don’t live near, but will make it everytime we have to go out to Rockford (for sports cards shows). Thanks Mr. Cesar and your chefs for making such great food and to you for being so hardworking and hospitable. See you soon!

I went tonight for the 1st time. I Got the Quesbarria Dinner, and Steak Taco Dinner. My wife said her steak tacos were delicious, the rice was pretty good and the beans could use a little more flavor. My Quesabarria Dinner was great as well. Alot of flavor and No gritty/ fatty meat. Overall very satisfied and will be back, enjoy this hidden gem before they get a better sign, because there will be a line out the door. (Steak Tacos In Pic)

Stopped in for dinner – recommended by my Dad. Did not disappoint. The portions were large, the food was fresh and the service was excellent. My husband ordered the steak fajitas special and I ordered the 3 taco dinner (chicken) and horchata (also a HUGE glass).All DELICIOUS. We will definitely be back to try the rest of their specials!

I had missed this place due to it being tucked away but definitely stop by! The portions are generous and the food is delicious. I’ve been looking for another Mexican place and I’ve definitely found it in Mr. Cesar’s.

At first glance you might miss this hidden gem. But don’t be fooled this isn’t just a gas station. This restaurant is legit and serious! You can’t compare this restaurant to any in the area. The menu offers multiple items not typical of ordinary Mexican restaurants and delivers top quality authentic flavors. Ordered the shrimp tacos and was pleasantly surprised.. it was so good I had to go back the next day. It was so good I had to tell my wife. It was so good I had to take her to said location the next day and she concurred.. now we might go back again today and order the same exact thing again. They’re addicting ! Ohh and the gas station next door is openly accessible and sells alcohol so I’m guessing it’s a byob restaurant like in Chicago so that’s pretty cool too if true.. extremely highly recommended

I was very skeptical about this place as there aren’t very many decent Mexican restaurants in Elgin, however Mr. Cesar’s did not disappoint! From the tacos to the enchilada dinner was delicious and the portion sizes do not disappoint!! I highly recommend for tasty authentic Mexican food.

It’s a nice hidden gem. Stop by on Saturday around 3pm. Food was delicious i got the taco dinner wife got the torta dinner. The meat was juicy and the torta was big, pre-covid big. Horchata was sweet not bland. Can’t wait to go back and try something different. Maybe a molcajete or menudo. They have slots but in a separate room, which is nice and not in the open.

Best tacos and burritos I’ve ever had. If you want amazing food come here. Want hot sauce this place has a extra hot red sauce that will put u on ur ass, but the rest of the sauce are really good as well. They will have a customer for life will me and my wife… but even my kids love this place.

10/10 recommend! I went in for craving of fish tacos and they were AMAZING! Best I’ve ever had! Not only that, but I met Mr. Cesar himself and he provided A1 service. It’s a bit far of a drive from me but I’ll definitely be making it every time I’m able, it’s 100% worth it!
