I got the 1 meat plate and 2 sides. It was great. The brisket was super tender you could pull it apart with your fork. I also got the bbq baked beans which were super rich and full of flavor. The potato salad was good but not a lot of depth to the flavor profile kinda just tasted like potato and mayo. But hey great overall and would recommend it to friends for sure. Can’t wait to be back.

1st time to go and I swear this was the best BBQ we have had. I had the burnt ends and brisket with cheesy potatoes and macaroni. She had ribs and brisket with baked beans and macaroni. Everything was perfect and we will definitely be going back. Oh and I hope my mom doesn’t see this but the best banana pudding.

Been coming here occasionally since they opened and every visit has been nothing short of phenomenal. Smoked turkey, cheese potatoes , brisket, and pulled pork are what I’ve tried so far. Staff is always friendly, the food is 10/10, serving sizes for plates are big enough to share and they always boast a clean dining room. The owners are top notch folks with high standards and it shows. Still loving Russell. Thank you for coming to the Shoals, we love having you here! ❤️

Best brisket I’ve had in Alabama. I got the 2 meat plate with brisket and turkey, the turkey was incredibly moist and also the best turkey I’ve had in the area. For sides I got their four cheese Mac and cheese and the potato salad, both of which were amazing. The staff is super nice and make the atmosphere feel warm and comfortable. 100% recommend this place. The pickles, jalapeños, pickled onions, and house slaw were all fresh and tasted great too.

Ok lemme just start by saying I usually don’t do reviews until I’ve eaten at a place 3, so I can get multiple chances to get a full experience of a place. First off the customer service has been great both times I was there. Friendly staff answers any and all questions and hasn’t gave me a bad recommendation yet. Even have spoke to the owner both times didn’t realize it the first time but now I know he cares about what he puts on these plates and the quality of food customers consume while dining here. I am by no means a turkey guy I don’t eat it on thanksgiving BUT today I tried the smoke turkey and lemme tell you my opinion has changed flavorful juicy tender and the smoke profile was amazing. Chicken was good ribs have been great both times. The smoked bologna was amazing and i don’t eat everybody’s smoke bologna. If you’re ever in the shoals head over to Sheffield and try this place out. CHECK THEIR HOURS BEFORE HEADING OVER but I promise it won’t disappoint.

My hubby and Instopped in for lunch . We got the 2 meat plate with Mac-n-cheese and bbq baked beans for the meat we had smoke chicken wings and bacon burnt ends. Wow! Just wow. Texas-style meets the Midwest for a beautifully smoked, moist, and most importantly flavorful BBQ combo. When I said I wanted some barbecue today, I did not expect to get treated to some of the best barbecue I’ve had in ages!
We had the brisket sandwich and the turkey sandwich with a side of their cheddar potatoes. I could write paragraphs dedicated to their brisket sandwich, and I’ll dream of their turkey sandwich tonight. I didn’t get to try much of their cheddar potatoes because they were stolen and devoured by my daughter, who said, “Best taters ever!” But from what I did get to taste, I’d have to agree with her.
If you want to treat yourself to something delicious and enjoy great and fast service with a lovely family friendly dining atmosphere, I couldn’t recommend Russell Barbecue enough!

The Stig
For my money, the sausage, ribs and chicken were the clear standouts. Also, the bacon burnt ends are quite good and now served daily! Pork butt was good, but not outstanding. Brisket was OK, but I would have preferred a little more fat on the selection I was served. Beans have a strong garlic flavor which isn’t bad, but may be off-putting for some. Cheesy potatoes were as expected.
Employees were friendly. Counter service, but they advise to leave used trays on table after eating. Bottled drinks (soda/tea/some beer) only, but WATER IS FREE!
