Great spot for soup and sandwiches. We enjoyed it so much we came back the next day for more. I highly recommend their soup; we loved the crab and potato soups! Fan favorite sandwich is the goat cheese grilled cheese; add bacon for some crisp and or tomato for extra flavor. Order at the counter, or call ahead to order, take a seat and food will arrive after a while. It takes time at lunch for food to get to the table so be sure you have ample time. No special drink options; they’re all pretty basic. We grabbed an orange aid at the pharmacy on the block which was outstanding. The restaurant is clean and simple inside. Recommend the food!

Update 09-23
I said I’d be back in less than a week later here I am! The broccoli and cheddar soup is absolutely phenomenal so is the chicken corn chowder! It pairs beautifully with the Chowan club!!
I’m in town staying at the Inner Banks Bed and Breakfast, and they recommended Downtown Roots while I waited for my room to be ready. I’m so glad they did!
The food is absolutely delicious, and the hospitality is amazing. I never felt rushed, and the cashier was super sweet, answering all of my questions. The sandwich had so much meat, and the potato soup quickly became my favorite—I’ll probably grab something to take back with me for the trip home!
If you happen to be in Edenton, North Carolina, definitely make Downtown Roots a pit stop. It’s a wonderful experience all around and truly delicious!

We stopped by for lunch while visiting for the holidays and were blown away! The tomato soup special with grilled cheese was easily the best I’ve ever had. We also tried the sweet potato and sausage soup—it was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend!

Great little sandwich shop with the best fresh salads. I had the grilled peach salad, and it was amazing! My only complaint is that I wish the sandwiches came with a side.

Good food, good people. A bit pricey for someone who wants one every other day, but definitely worth it for a treat every now and then. $15 for roast beef sandwich, $2 small chip bag, $4.50 for Celsius drink ($3 for water). Sandwich is big enough to split, good enough to eat by yourself! I’ve gotten the “Broadway Bully” sandwich every time I’ve went with no complaints! Add lettuce, banana pepper, extra chimichurri sauce (love it) with bbq chips, THE BEST!

This new sandwich shop in downtown Edenton is a nice addition. It’s refreshing that the sandwiches are a bit different from the norm. They are also generous in size. My husband and I split the Chowan Club. I would like to see real butter used on the bread instead of the aerosol spray, but overall, this was a very good sandwich.

Ate there while visiting my cousin. Had the Mediterranean salad special and WOW what a bounty of fresh field greens, hummus, feta, tomato, olives, onions and chicken with homemade Greek dressing and fresh grilled bread. It was beautiful, plentiful and delicious. There was a happy energy in the room from the staff who prepared it to the owner who stopped at our table to say hi. Will definitely be back.

What a wonderful edition to Downtown Edenton! The food is just enough gourmet to be interesting and delicious but the menu is crafted in a way that is classic and inviting. Can’t wait to try more. The staff (I believe the owners) were friendly and helpful. The chef was helpful with our Gluten Allergy and picking items off the menu.

This was the healthiest food we ate while on our visit to Edenton. We had two wonderful salads that were prepared nicely. We saw the sandwiches that were being prepared for other customers, and they were stuffed with meat. The quality and quantity were equal to the price. Nice young owner, support a locally owned business.
