I was in the mood for Chinese food so I decided to make a stop here. I happened to go in when nobody was in. I figured it was just the right timing. The tables were all clean. I saw the menu behind the counter but was also giving a paper menu to look through. I got the fried rice with beef. Payment will be accepted in the form of cash or credit card. The wait was about 10 minutes. The amount of food was more than I expected. I had leftovers and the food was delicious. I would come back and try a different item from the menu.

I never knew you could ruin a Singapore Rice Noodle dish!! The noodles tasted watery and it barely had any flavor! I was disappointed and live on the other side of town, otherwise I would have brought this dish back and requested a refund!

I’ve been here a few times and the service/food was not good. Food lacks flavor and Asian spices. When you call in an order for pick up, they don’t make the food until you get there. 0 stars.

I recently visited this restaurant after seeing the viral Egg Foo Young trending on TikTok. It had been a long time since my last visit, so I decided to give it a try and called in an order for Shrimp Egg Foo Young with Shrimp Fried Rice, substituting garlic sauce for the traditional gravy.

When I called, I was told the total would be around $20, although I didn’t catch the exact amount. However, upon arrival, the total came to $26.53, which I found quite steep for a Chinese takeout order.

The food was packaged in two separate containers one with three large Egg Foo Young patties and another with shrimp fried rice. Unfortunately, the rice container was not filled, resulting in an uneven ratio of Egg Foo Young to rice. After eating one patty with the rice, I was left with two more and nothing to pair them with.

The garlic sauce was particularly disappointing thin, watery, and lacking flavor. To make matters worse, the container wasn’t even filled completely, so there wasn’t enough sauce to accompany the remaining patties. At nearly $30, a full portion of sauce should be a basic expectation.

I also noticed a significant difference in quality compared to previous visits, which might be due to a recent change in ownership, as mentioned in other reviews. I used to regularly order their garlic wings with fried rice and remember the sauce being much more flavorful in the past.

This order did not include an egg roll or a drink, which further added to the feeling that the meal was overpriced. Ultimately, I gave the leftovers to a homeless individual rather than throw them away, as I couldn’t justify wasting the $30, I had spent — but unfortunately, the food was so unappetizing that I cannot recommend it.

Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. Between the high prices, poor quality food, and lack of consistency, I won’t be returning.

Save your money! We ordered Crab Rangoon. They were not good at all. They used a different type of wonton wrap instead of the one that would traditionally be used. The wrap was thick and the bite into the Crab Rangoon was disappointing. The taste was weird plus they had CARROTS inside them. They also put super HOT sweet and sour sauce in a Plastic cup which made it become deformed and almost explode. I recommend a small foam container. I am all for supporting small businesses but I need them to support my hunger as well. I’m still hungry and out $7.50. SMH

Paid $6 for sesame chicken and that’s the cheapest I’ve ever bought. It was good however the woman had an attitude which is what I expected from past reviews . Good prices though will come again

As I read the other reviews from people, it amazes me how ignorant people really are. The old owners and food they served was amazing, but people move on. The new owners are polite and nice and give a good sized serving for the price. The new recipes are really good and ofc not going to be like the old one hints a new owner. The negative comments don’t really make sense. If you do like them because they’re Hispanic, it shows what century you’re living in.

I waited almost 30 mins for chicken and rice. I’m not sure why they have fast food in their title is not fast at all. The food has no flavor, was definitely not worth the wait. I will never come here again

**2nd Update:
I found chicken wings that are the closest in taste at (of all places) a Mexican food truck next to / behind a tiny gas station at the corner of Albemarle rd & Wilgrove-mint hill rd ironically I would NOT recommend the Mexican food (& check y’all order before you leave, & count your wings cus they will cheat you) but after over a year of trying a ton of new Chinese restaurant their wings taste about 50% similar mind you they look nothing like them but the taste was giving old golden gate wings. I’m still on the search for similar wings drop the address if you know a place even if it’s not in charlotte.

Update:
Big Wok II in Rock Hill – has somewhat the same rice. (I’m still searching for a place with similar chicken wings.)

Honorable mention: Ks Asian Xpress- (in Charlotte) they have more a more delicious spicy red chilly sauce hotter than golden gate … the food here is amazing too but different than golden gate but good. (When y’all drive up just remember: Don’t judge a book by it’s cover)

Original Review:
Please don’t gate keep. Anyone. Please post a review if you know of another restaurant with the old recipe/style of cooking that this restaurant use to have. From my understanding the new owners were given the recipe to the original food but based on the food they are cooking now looks like they didn’t care to follow the instructions and are cooking different variations which I don’t care for. Tisk tisk. If I find a new place I’ll update this review and let y’all know & the 5 stars is to throw off the Google algorithm and bump my review to the top so more people can see it but tbh I would rate this new golden gate ZERO stars.
