We are not another Japanese restaurant. This kind of business establishment is called “tachinomi-ya”, or “standing bar”. It’s a drinking establishment. We specialize in Japanese premium sake and “otsumami” or “bar bites” which compliments alcohol beverages especially “sake”. We also have beer, shochu, Shochu cocktails, whiskey highballs, and basic selections of spirits. This is a place to enjoy grown up conversations, relaxing time, and socializing over adult beverages.

I absolutely adore this bar/restaurant! It’s a Japanese standing bar, for drinking sake & eating bar food. The owners are incredibly nice & chill, the sake is amazing & imported from Japan & the food is exquisite. Everything changes all the time, so every visit is different. I love the AOR soundtrack as well. This is such a unique place & a gem to have in an unexpected small city like Lexington. Not to be missed!!!

Absolutely incredible atmosphere. All of the food is unbelievably fresh, flavorful, and delicious. We split about 6 different plates between 3 people and could have had more. I can’t believe how special and unique this spot is and this is just my first time coming. We can’t wait to come back for some great drinks and food!

Incredible place – it’s unique to have such an authentic and carefully crafted experience of Japan in Lexington! The small plates are simply outstanding, the sake is selected with care and the proprietors are a sweet, friendly and hardworking couple. We visited a few times during our time visiting Lex and hands down recommend!

The Lemon Chuhai was very refreshing, and the Yuzu Cooler was also very tasty. I haven’t had much sake before, but I also tried a sake flight to get a sampling of some of their sake, and it was the best sake I’ve ever had. We tried a few of their snacks as well, and they were perfect complements to the drinks. This place has a very comforting atmosphere, and the owners were extremely friendly. Also, no kids allowed, so this is a great spot for a unique date night, or for hanging out and having conversations with other adults. Highly recommend. Tonight was our first time there, and we definitely plan on going back because it was a very enjoyable experience.

If I could give standing room only six stars I would. This was hands down the best experience I had while visiting Lexington. I was around for about a week and tried many different places for lunch and dinner and after drinks. I was so delighted when my last night in town we checked out this place. I couldn’t really pick just one thing on the menu, which there is only one printed menu for people to share, so I tried everything. Just when I thought it couldn’t get better then what I was having the next round would hit me. Their sake selections are excellent, but I wish they sold the bottle instead of just by the glass. I can’t describe to you all how incredible this place is if you like talking to strangers, being around new cultures, and tasting small portions of decadent food.

I’ve eaten at many places in my life. I cannot believe that a place this good exists in Lexington. I’m just going to say it. Now I am only surprised that sro isn’t famous in this town. Sro is one of those places I’ll never forget and is the standard all other Japanese food will have to compete with in my mind for the rest of my life. Thank you guys so much for what you do!

There’s no other place in Lex like SRO – it’s a traditional Japanese izakaya with a focus on (unique) drinks and snack-size food. The food is amazing and simple – we ordered one of everything off the menu – and service is great.

Had an awesome time at Chef Yamaguchi’s new place on W. 6th. Good atmosphere to have a few drinks and get some small plates of food. There is a great space outside in the back to hang out and have a drink too. After ordering some drinks, you can order small plates that are prepared in front of you. We basically sampled the entire menu. Crab dumplings, inari, sea urchin, and the smoked salmon with daikon were some of our favorites. Will be back soon.
