Coachella Fella
Been here many times. Probably should have left a review sooner. Bottom line: It’s legit. There’s many good Mexican places in Palm Desert. This one is in the top contenders. It has a popular original location in La Quinta but the Palm Desert location is less busy for now.
It’s great for pre-Chella, before or after a day at the BNP Paribas Open or AMEX golf tournament. Or playing a round or set.
What to get: carnitas. Ask the bartender and/or chef…they make it daily or for lunch the following day compared to other places that make 3+ days worth. It’s like that perfect Texas brisket. Crunchy parts and juicy parts.
Also good, their Diablo sauce if you like spicy and the margaritas if you like tequila.

We really enjoyed our dinner here. The chips and salsa provided are really good. The salsa has a nice kick to it. We had the enchiladas Rojas and the Berthas fresco salad with fish. The enchiladas were terrific and a good portion. Wish the red sauce was a bit spicier though. The salad was good but previous pictures showed a lot more avocado so was a bit disappointed in that. The enchiladas were definitely the better of two. Will be back for sure!

We love Casa Mendoza! We have been going to the one in old Town la Quinta. We cant wait to try the new location. They have the best chips and salsa. my husband always goes home with a 32 oz. container of it. The pork chile verde is very good as well as the tostada salad. You cant get a bad meal! The service is always friendly and quick.

Stopped in for lunch and was pleasantly surprised with the beautiful atmosphere when we walked in, along with a nice outdoor patio. We ordered Margaritas, martinis, chili relleno rice and beans, 2 chicken tacos rice and beans, and guacamole to go with their complimentary chips and salsa! Everything was great, absolutely no complaints. Margarita was larger than most restaurants serve and by no means weak, food was delicious and service great. Definitely a great place for Mexican food!

Personally, I enjoyed my carne asada burrito plate and Cadillac margarita.
My dinner companion didn’t care for anything she ordered. She asked for mild red sauce enchiladas and felt they were too spicy and had a strong taste of vinegar. Her strawberry margarita was horrible. I tasted it and have to agree on that. The one thing she really enjoyed was the complimentary chips and salsa.
The atmosphere was nice and the service was very good. The food was NOT a win for both of us.
We won’t be back.

Food was great but the service was awful. Our server was very nice but completely inattentive. Being a server is more than taking an order. After sitting for a very long time after being done, we finally asked another employee for the check. Our server never came back after she took the order & brought the drinks.

Went there because wife had been there 3 nights prior for the first time and she had loved it and it was big enough so our two little ones (2&3.5 yo) could run around if needed to. Place is huge and friendly, lots of TVs with sports on them (our 3.5 yo screamed football and ran to one table) and when you see Spanish speakers there in large numbers ordering and enjoying the food you know the food is delish and authentic. We weren’t disappointed! First place we didn’t have to ask for spicy salsa (that means if you don’t like spicy you’re in trouble gringo lol) and they were generous with their helpings while we waited. The large side of guacamole was enough for 3 hungry adults and two little ones, the steak fajitas were generous in portion with lots of well cooked vegetables and well seasoned to boot. Grilled first tacos were really flavorful and not just a fish stick either.
Sorry we were too hungry to take pictures of the food when it arrived (not late btw it was just kids that were distracting us as well). The margarita was strong and yummy to boot.
Update
So my wife and I went back for a late lunch without the kiddos this time and we both had margaritas instead of me sampling hers like last time. She’s gone there a total of 3 times and I’ve been there now twice. I’m just going to suggest avoiding their house tequila and order yourself a branded one. There’s a bitterness in their house tequila brands that at first my wife attributed to the Skinny mix (1st time she went), empty stomach (2nd time) but after yesterday she was left nauseous and I had a massive headache lasting for about 5 hours post drink (we both had only one large margarita each),,so there’s definitely something with their house tequila that we won’t be ordering again.. the service and food we’re still excellent and their spicy salsa is amazing

Our new fav Mexican restaurant. Food is delicious, chips are just right, and the salsa – wow, lots of flavor, not too hot – with a nice ‘after glow’. Stopped by 3 times in the past 3 weeks. This place should be on your list of go-to restaurants.

I want to be honest in my comment….
We enjoy to eat here, maybe is not the best Mexican food I have in my life but enough to come back any day any time. Recommended 100%

My experience was disappointing. When ordering, I asked my waiter if I could get my meat well done because I’m pregnant and cannot eat undercooked meat. Well, upon receiving the plate, it’s like I was served the total opposite. The meat was pink & cold! I didn’t touch the plate, and the server made no effort to fix the issue or offer an alternative. I had told her if she could take the plate back & she completely ignored what I said & charged me the plate. I thought that showed a lack of basic customer care & was not happy.
