Had been eager to try X as it had received a lot of buzz in the neighborhood and finally made it in for lunch last sunday. I’ll start by saying, based on the reviews, we were definitely nervous about there being a line. However, upon showing up at noon on a Sunday we were quickly sat. The place started to get busier as the afternoon progressed to the point where there was a wait by the time we left, so just go early and you shouldn’t have a problem.

The atmosphere itself is casual but clean and nice. They had some simple but nice decor up and the tables were nice. They had solid staffing and we were quickly attended to throughout the meal.

For food we went with the Dan Dan noodle and the wide noodle with pork, along with some assorted dim sum to start the meal. The dim sum was fine but nothing to ride home about. It was clear that the noodles were the real stars of the show. They tasted quite fresh and it was nice that you were able to order them in whatever preferred width you’d like. The dan dan were rich and creamy with a strong peanut influence which I personally enjoyed. The wide noodles were also tasty, however the pork pork was a little fattier than I would have liked.

All in all the food was tasty, there were just a few areas I think they could improve. For one there were no sauces at the table for the dim sum. Typically you get an assortment of soy and chili oil but we had to request those and then also request spoons for the vessels. Additionally, the noodles are so fresh and also long that actually putting them on your plate when sharing is a struggle. Either silverware or scissors to cut them would have come in handy.

I came to X Noodles & Dumplings with high expectations. The hand crafted noodles met expectations and you can taste the authenticity. From a flavor perspective, it wasn’t my favorite for the mapo tofu and chili wonton. For the wonton, you’re much better off at Dough Zone or DTF for the sauce and flavor. The beef roll was as expected.
For me, I’m glad this place exists, especially in downtown. Brings good Chinese flavor to the Pearl. The interior is modern and pleasing and the big windows helps make it feel upscale. Service was attentive. You can expect to come here and have an enjoyable Chinese meal on the more authentic side.
I would come back again but I won’t be running back.

I recently tried X Noodles & Dumplings and ordered the Pork Wontons with Chili Sauce and the Braised Beef Soup Noodles.

The pork wontons were honestly the standout of the meal. The portion was generous and the chili sauce had a great balance of flavor, savory with a nice kick but not overpowering. Every bite was really satisfying and it ended up being my favorite dish by far.

The braised beef soup noodles were good too. The broth was mild and comforting and the beef was tender. It’s definitely a solid bowl of noodles. That said, after trying the wontons, I kind of wished I had just ordered more of those instead.

Overall I’d definitely come back, and next time I’m probably getting multiple orders of the pork wontons.

Stumbled upon this place by chance, walking to a nearby restaurant. Boy am I glad! The service, atmosphere and quality were great. We tried the spicy beef soup, traditional beef soup, and also the pork wonton in chili oil (OMGGG YUM). Also, tried a couple cocktails (highly recommend the lychee drink)

I definitely plan on going back and trying more menu items.

They had only been open 2 days, so very impressive for such a new restaurant.

What really set this place apart from other similar restaurants, is the hand stretched noodles. And the option to choose your noodle type for each soup dish.

I order wonton in chili oil at every restaurant to compare and contrast. And between Xin Ding, Duckhouse, and Hengry Dumpling house, I think the wonton here was the best! Flavor wise and texture was the best! And the price point was better too.

Speedy service once you get in, but this place seems very popular and there’s a good line most of the time. The foods good but it’s also standard for this type of restaurant, nothing really stands out but will still pick this over DTF, and save some money along the way. The numbing noodles were good, get that.

The place is fairly small, so if it’s busy you may end up waiting a little.

With that being said, the service is speedy and you usually get your food within 10 minutes. Food is pretty good, so I would recommend stopping by at least once to check it out!

The spicy chicken flat noodles and Lanzhou beef noodle soup were very good. Pork dumplings in chili oil were not as good as DTF. The pork hamburger was good, however they forgot about it and it came 20min after we finished eating everything else after we asked 3 times for it. Bean curd appetizer: the bean curds (dried tofu skin) was very stiff, the way I like it, but others may find it too hard. Taste was spot on.

Food: 10 /10
Service: 10 /10
Atmo: 10 /10

Service was friendly and professional. Food came out fast and hot. Everything was delicious. The noodles were very chewy and fresh-tasting. You got can’t go wrong with hand-pulled nudes.

The place is very new and clean

Sooo good I’m happy this place opened in the pearl district!

Friendly staff and fast service
Noodles and dumplings were cooked to perfection

Recommended dishes
Smashed cucumbers
XLB dumplings
Flat noodles with braised pork belly (OMG BEST DISH OF THE NIGHT)
Pork wontons with chili oil least favorite. The peanut sauce threw us off. It didn’t pair well! We should have gotten the dumplings with the chili oil instead
Had pulled noodle soup was great. It was a clear broth but still had some nice aromatics and the noodles were perfect. The soup reminded me of a lighter version of pho

Would definitely return to try more items!

X Noodles & Dumplings is the kind of place Portland pretends it is not obsessed with, and then secretly builds its entire week around.

From the moment you sit down, they do not just hand you a menu. They walk you through it like a trusted friend who knows you are about to make excellent life choices but needs gentle guidance. This is essential, because otherwise you might miss something, and missing something here would be tragic.

Let’s start with the shao mai. These are not just dumplings. These are tiny, perfect flavor parcels that feel like they were engineered by someone who truly cares about joy. Light, savory, deeply satisfying. Then the pan-fried dumplings show up and casually reset your standards for what “crispy bottom, juicy center” even means. The balance is ridiculous.

Then there is the cucumber salad. Which has no business being this good. It is bright, punchy, refreshing, and somehow addictive. You order it thinking you are being responsible. You finish it wishing you had ordered two. The mushrooms are equally unhinged in the best way. Deep, savory, silky, and absolutely not optional.

And then, just when you think you are peaking, the wontons in chili sauce arrive. This dish is pure chaos in a bowl. Heat, richness, umami, and just enough sweetness to keep you going back in for “one more bite” about seven more times.

The beef noodle soup is the final boss. The broth is deeply rich, comforting, and layered in a way that feels both nostalgic and wildly impressive. The noodles are made by hand, and you can taste that. They have that perfect chew, that perfect bounce, that perfect “why do all noodles not taste like this” quality.

All of this happens in a space that feels cozy, modern, clean, and quietly cool in that very Portland way. Warm lighting, relaxed energy, no weird pretension, just a place that wants you to sit, eat, talk, and be happy. The service is impeccable without being stiff. Attentive, friendly, helpful, and genuinely warm.

X Noodles & Dumplings is comfort food with standards. It is serious cooking that does not take itself too seriously. It is where you go when you want to be impressed, well fed, and emotionally supported by noodles.

Portland has a lot of food. This is the kind you remember.
