Seek out this treasure of a taco shop! A diamond in the rough! A “Vaca” is a quesadilla with meat: a must try! The birria broth is particularly stomach friendly—not greasy nor too spicy—but if you prefer swing by the fresh salsa bar to spice it up to your liking. The Chile Colorado taco is to die for!

Taqueria La Vaca in Tucson is a true gem for lovers of authentic Sonora-style Mexican food. I’ve been here twice now, and both visits left me impressed and craving more.

Today, I tried their birria, which was bursting with rich, savory flavors that felt like a warm embrace of traditional Sonoran cooking. On a previous visit, I had the cabeza, and it was equally outstanding—tender, flavorful, and perfectly prepared.

What makes Taqueria La Vaca stand out is its dedication to quality and authenticity. The handmade corn tortillas are exceptional, reflecting the essence of Sonoran cuisine—they’re fresh, soft, and carry that unmistakable homemade taste. Everything here is crafted with care, and it truly shows. Not to mention, the place is incredibly clean, adding to the overall fantastic dining experience.

Traveling through and found this little gem tucked away off the freeway. Was surprised they were open so early. Very very AUTHENTIC place. The owner let us in early until she was ready. Ordered the menudo, tacos, and they even have Mexican coffee, it’s strong and very very dark. Stop here if you have time to kill, traveling through , stop and get yourself some amazing food!

My husband and I were passing through Tucson, and I was in the mood for tacos. I looked for a place that was right off the highway, and had good reviews. This place was perfect!

My husband got the quesadillas with beef and he loved them. I started with one Birria taco with cheese, and wound up ordering a second because it was so good! I love the sauce they serve with it, and that they offer all the fresh condiments on the side. Even though the taco really does stand alone and needs nothing on top of it to be perfect!

The family who owns it is lovely! I learned it’s owned by a mom, daughter & daughters husband all work there. They were all super sweet, and genuinely happy, good people. If we’re ever passing through Tucson, I would definitely support this local gem!

Went in hoping for a chicharron burrito to start the day. The woman working were very kind, however what I received was a burrito filled w soggy, squishy, pork skin. I couldn’t finish it as I felt it was inedible. Hope other items on the menu are better prepared.

Hands down one of the best, if not the best Taco I have ever eaten in my life. The vaca birria taco is an absolutely piece of heaven in a corn tortilla. The corn tortillas are made fresh on site. I look forward to sharing this delightful culinary treat with my friends and family. If you love great food and great service stop by Taqueria La Vaca. See you there.

The birria and cabeza are great, but it’s not like it’s difficult to find great birria or cabeza in Tucson. IMO there are a couple of things that set La Vaca apart from the pack:
– Bomb corn tortillas. There are a few other places in town that have a reputation for great corn tortillas, and El Corral de la Vaca should really be one of them. They’re a little on the thick and hearty side, which makes them a great supporting player for…

– The Vacas: Big, ultra-thick quesatacos that need to be eaten with a fork and knife. These offensively decadent, meat sweat-inspiring dream boats are wrapped in one of those extra chewy tortillas, griddled crispy, and oozing cheesy beefy goodness out all sides. Hits just right with a little of the hot red salsa and some cilantro and onion.

– The decor: I love the cute, kitschy cow decor including a big mural and novelty napkin holders on all the tables

– The people: This place is run by really nice people who sell a fantastic product. I’m surprised that it took me so long to stop in here but I’ll definitely be back

Really delicious tacos, burros, with slow cooked meat at the ready. Plenty of seating. Super fast staff in the kitchen.
