I second the sentiment of another review: “all hail the mighty Gail” (referring to the bartender). This classic neighborhood bar was the first and last awesome stop for a night out reuniting old friends. Gail the bartender served us ice cold tap beers and confirmed that my friend’s lost jean jacket from a 1988 date at this establishment was long gone. He reported that the date was successful and memorable. Gail reported that there has been a bar at this location for 100 years but didn’t recall how long it’s been the Speedway Inn or how long she’s worked there since (by her account) she’s not into monitoring time. Fair enough. She was engaging and attentive. Many of the complaints in other reviews giving a vibe of childhoods with too many participation trophies. Be cool to the bartender and she’ll be cool back. Will definitely return to this establishment. Thanks for the hospitality Gail!

Horrible, went in and only the bar tender was there. Started some small talk asking “has it been busy” the bar tender instantly started with an attitude. It was a group of 5 of us who were looking for a place to have a few cheep drinks before our night out. Bar tender was unfriendly, very rude, and spoke to us with unneeded sarcasm. We had one shot and left, save your money and find somewhere else.

My wife and I drove past this place probably a million times. We always wanted to stop in. Well today was the day and I am glad we did! This place has been here what seems like forever, it has outlasted almost every other business on Bluemound Road. Like a tiny island on the Pacific surrounded by an endless sea of over commercialism they have prevailed! It is a well preserved piece of Brookfield history which I hope never fades away. I have read the other reviews of this old tyrant woman bartender, of which I had the pleasure of meeting. Sure she was salty and spicy, but what would you expect from someone who has been schlepping beers for 46 years! You have to appreciate this kind of old soul. I found her to be quite humorous and kind. I think she knew I appreciated her sense of humor. I think today’s generation has very thin skin and can’t handle any kind of negativity. Sad. If you are looking for a taste of what old Brookfield used to be, give this place a try. Inexpensive drinks, a nice selection of bar food and a lot of fun!

5/5 perfect. Look. This is the definition of dive bar. Does it smell odd occasionally? Yes. Is the service overwhelmed sometimes? Yes. Does it have the nicest staff and cheap drinks? Also yes! The best place to go to experience local midwest hospitality after enjoying the four corners. Be open minded. Have a great time. Order the lord calvert its awesome.

Visiting town, wanted a local dive bar. Next thing we know the CO2 gun was blowing all over and we are in the basement trying to help. Flipping switches, turning valves off and on. We were literally plumbers in the basement. Best time ever!

Read reviews and was curious on how out visit would be. Had a wonderful time even though grill was closed as we came late. Our bartender Dale was awesome. Old-school as we are accustomed too, which was nice for a change. She doesn’t cater to negative people who feel sorry for themselves who feel like victims in life. Respect her job, behave with respect like everyone should and you will have a blast. Definitely going to return next time through. Was nice to not be in a corporate establishment where they ACT as if you matter, and be taken care of by a genuine bartender that is real!!

I read a lot of reviews about this place and sensing the pretentiousness in all the 1star reviews, I had to try it. Perfect ‘dive’ bar. The “old hag” behind the bar was a breath of fresh air. A little respect and a descent tip goes a long way. The only reason they didn’t get 5stars is I didn’t have any food. You will only get the basic drinks here, but they are proper pours.If you want to go to a proper dive, this is for you.
