Reviews
The service was equally excellent. Our server was knowledgeable and spot-on with his recommendations, enhancing an already exceptional meal. The cocktails were also outstanding, perfectly complementing the dishes.
Overall, an amazing dinner from start to finish — creative, delicious, and memorable. Highly recommend Arden for anyone looking for a refined yet inviting culinary experience.
Then for food, we ordered more than we needed because we really wanted to try the oxtail but also wanted veggies. The oxtail was superb, although slightly under salted but well balanced if you have it with a mouthful of the udon. We also got the sashimi appetizer which had really fresh fish and thickly sliced.
We were so full afterwards, we had to pack up the food the salad and oxtail so didn’t have any room for dessert. But one of the waitstaff came over bringing a slice of cheesecake for my husband’s bday. That was so nice!! We had a wonderful experience here and would definitely come back. I’m even considerinng staying at the Lotus!
We started with a 2021 Melville Block M Pinot Noir ($145); it’s a relatively light bodied Pinot, with red fruit and earthiness. We chose the Venison Tartare ($32) and the Foie Gras Terrine ($49) to start. The tartare was cubed, with dollops of bonito-flavored aioli, pickled shallots, and served with potato chips. The foie gras terrine was interesting … the terrine was shaped like a block of butter, with a thin sheet of butter encapsulating the foie gras mousse. It was served with squares of thick-sliced toast, and two containers, one containing an onion jam, the other housing Umeshu gelee. The foie gras spread like butter … think “meat butter”. I liked the onion jam more than the plum wine jelly; the latter was very subtle in flavor.
We chose Lamb Lollipops ($54), Braised Oxtail ($54), and Mushroom Rice ($32) for our main course. The lamb was very mild, served on whipped Chevre, with shaved fennel, nuts and seeds. The oxtail was delicious; it came with curly udon, peanuts, cilantro, and a plastic bottle of chili pepper vinegar. I do not like udon, but this version won me over … chewy and flavorful. The rice was chock full of pieces of Shiitake, Maitake, Oyster Mushroom, crispy garlic, and brown butter. This, and the oxtail were my favorite dishes.
We ended our meal with a Chocolate Island dessert with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream ($20) and an Americano ($6). The dessert was disappointing (to me); it wasn’t special, based upon its price.
We enjoyed our time at Arden … The place was empty when we arrived and packed when we left. Service from Kirka (GM & Wine Director) and Christopher was fine but slackened as the evening wore on. We think they need more staff. My car was unscathed … thank goodness. I’ll give Arden a rating of 4+ and a conditional recommendation. I think some of the dishes need to be improved, visually. Choose wisely and you will enjoy your time at Arden.
The restaurant has a contemporary interior design that feels clean, elegant, and relaxed at the same time. The lighting and layout create a comfortable atmosphere that works well for a longer dinner experience rather than a quick meal.
The menu emphasizes carefully prepared dishes that highlight high-quality ingredients and balanced flavors. Each plate feels thoughtfully composed, with attention given not only to taste but also to visual presentation. The dishes reflect a modern approach to dining where technique and creativity play an important role.
What stood out to me most was the overall pacing of the meal. The kitchen clearly focuses on delivering courses in a way that allows diners to appreciate each dish rather than rushing through the experience. It creates a more intentional dining atmosphere compared to many of the fast-paced restaurants in Waikiki.
Service during the visit was professional and attentive. Staff were knowledgeable about the menu and maintained a smooth flow throughout the meal.
Overall, Arden Waikiki offers a more elevated dining experience in an area that is often dominated by casual restaurants. If you are looking for a modern restaurant in Waikiki that focuses on quality ingredients, presentation, and attentive service, this is definitely a place worth visiting.
STEAMED KONA KANPACHI 5 Coconut Curry, Pea Tendrils, flaky, juicy, flavorful
BRAISED OXTAIL 4 Udon, Peanuts, Cilantro, Chili Pepper Vinegar; oxtail was juicy, tender, but too plain
The entire menu is designed to be “shareable” but the format of menu items feels like a mix of single entree items and appetizers. I was excited to try the concept but it felt a little awkward sharing udon with the table and a little more awkward being brought a dish of fries as a main course.
Also, they have $5 coasters from Amazon. Feels like corner cutting.
All the food we ordered was delicious and highly satisfying. I was especially looking forward to dessert, as it seems to be what they’re known for, and it exceeded my expectations. It looks like they can accommodate large groups as well. I’ve found a hidden gem in Waikiki—I’ll definitely be back!
We got both the fish appetizers and they did not disappoint. The passionfruit with the hamachi was a perfect complement to this light fish. We also loved the roasted cabbage which had an okinomyaki sauce. The carrots with goat cheese and sesame was really interesting, but I think we loved the oxtail udon the most (generous portion, we had leftovers for 2 but no complaints!).
Desserts are really generous. We were told by our waiter that they baked Hawaii was a smaller portion (but I have a friend who ordered it another night and said it was fantastic) and we went with the brownie. the brownie was the diameter of the plate and very decadent. So decadent we could not finish it and had a brownie dessert again the next night!
All around a great meal and highly recommend!
