$48 for trash.
As a first-time customer, they got my $48 once, but they could have made so much more by keeping me coming back. Unfortunately, too many businesses focus on the short term instead of the long term. Never again.
1000% do not recommend save your money and go with a place that actually cares
I recently discovered Mawa’s African Cuisine in East Lansdowne, PA, and it was an absolute revelation! Tucked away on Baltimore Avenue, this cozy spot offers a warm, inviting atmosphere that feels like stepping into a family home in West Africa. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive—our server took the time to explain the menu and recommend dishes based on our preferences, making the whole experience feel personal and welcoming.
We started with the Attiéké & Dibi Lamb with Plantain, and wow, it was perfection. The lamb was tender, perfectly grilled with just the right amount of spice, paired with fluffy attiéké (cassava couscous) and sweet, caramelized plantains. The portions are generous enough for leftovers, which is always a bonus! Next, we dove into the Jollof Rice with Spicy Pepper Sauce—hands down the best I’ve ever had. The rice was flavorful, aromatic, and had that ideal balance of tomato, onions, and spices, with a kick from the pepper sauce that wasn’t overwhelming but added incredible depth. We also tried the Fufu & Soup, a hearty stew loaded with fresh vegetables, tender chicken, and rich broth that warmed us right up on a chilly evening.
Everything is made with high-quality, fresh ingredients, and you can taste the authenticity in every bite. It’s not just food; it’s a cultural experience that blends West African traditions with a touch of American comfort. Prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity, and the service was spot-on—fast, polite, and genuinely caring.
If you’re in the Philly area and craving something unique and delicious, Mawa’s is a must-visit. I’ll be back soon for more! 10/10 recommend.
The container had expiration labels indicating dates that had already passed by the time the order arrived Jan 27th. One label showed a date one day earlier than delivery, and another showed a different date, but regardless of the specific day listed, the label indicated the food had been prepared and held for approximately two weeks, which exceeds standard food safety timelines for prepared dishes.
Additionally, the item labeled as “vegan” appeared to contain visible meat. Because of the expiration labeling and incorrect contents, I did not eat the food.
Even if food is frozen or reheated, serving items beyond their labeled preparation window and mislabeling dietary items presents a risk—especially for customers with dietary restrictions, allergies, or health conditions.
I’m sharing this review for transparency so other customers can make informed decisions.
We ordered the attieke with dibi lamb and wow, the lamb was tender and seasoned to perfection. The attieke was light and fluffy, everything was balanced so well. You can tell that it was made with care and real flavor. We also got the bissap juice and let me tell you it was amazing (one of my favorite drinks).
The whole experience felt warm and comforting. You can taste the authenticity in the dish, I am already planning on visiting again!! This place is definitely worth it!
I ordered lamb, plantains, and vegetable rice, and just WOW! The lamb was tender and flavorful, the plantains were perfectly caramelized, and the rice was light, fluffy, and packed with veggies.
You can tell every bite is made with love, passion, and authenticity. Whether you order online or visit in person, you won’t be disappointed. Support this amazing spot—10/10 recommend!
