La Jaliscience is my favorite restaurant in Defiance. Not just Mexican restaurant, any restaurant. I try to order something new from the menu often and everything I’ve had there is great! The birria burrito and pollo poblano are two of my favorite dishes! The staff is always very friendly and the drinks are delicious! On Wednesdays and weekends, there is a lady there who makes the best guacamole I’ve ever eaten! As noted by others, the parking can be a bit wonky and sometimes it’s better to park at the bank across the street and walk over. The grocery side is great too for finding spices and other essentials for home.

We were traveling through northwest Ohio over the holidays trying to avoid tolls and chain chow. La Jaliscience appeared right along our route on googly. I cannot say enough how happy I was. The tamales are homemade and remind you of family. Sauces are made from scratch and tended without hurry. These folks love preparing food and it shows.

Both the grocery and the restaurant are clean and inviting, and they are separated in such a way that any activity from the grocery doesn’t intrude on your meal.

This neighborhood market, grocery store, resto and family owners have been around Defiance for a long time. My first encounter with this local gem was over twenty years ago on my first visit to this Ohio town, and it’s still around with improvements, enhancements and is still great overall! A terrific family run business. From its jam-packed with a wide array of dry and can goods on grocery shelves, great meats, extensive local baked goods, and a much renovated and expanded restaurant and really nice Mexican-style bar! If you’re in town and are in the mood for an ice-cold Dox Equis and/or Jalisco style Mexican cuisine, this the place for you! Their goodies run the gamut from an incredible Pozole to Grilled Chicken delights, to delectable Burritos to mouthwatering tacos, some terrific, refried beans and incredible chips and salsa! I think they are one of the top five Mexican food joints in the Defiance area. Oh, and do your groceries while you’re at it. Buen provecho ya’ll.

This is the second time we’ve been there to eat after a bad experience a year ago for the same issues. I convinced my partned to give them a second chance. That maybe it was just a random mistake and it would be better this time as long as I checked my receipts before we left. I was sorely mistaken. We went yesterday for lunch 12/21/25. This is the second time that the menu prices do not reflect what they charge you at the register. If you inquire about a seven dollar discrepancy, they point to the front of the menu which says in small print that prices subject to change. When I asked politely if they were going to write in the menu the updated price and that I would have ordered something else had I known, my waiter gave me an attitude and said the menu will be updated soon and tossed it back in the stack. By the way, they said that a year ago when I last visited and was grossly overcharged. Meanwhile, the ladies at the grocery register were talking trash in Spanish about us and giving me dirty looks like we couldn’t understand them, we clearly did but chose not to call them out and cause a scene. Stereotyping someone and giving them “güerita prices” is not how you operate a business. My partner, who is Hispanic, and I will never return again and will happily give our business elsewhere instead.

Found this place working in Defiance.i ate there every day.The food is absolutely amazing and authentic. It is not what the wife & I call gringo Mexican. They have great service, and the staff is really friendly. I live about 2 hours away & will definitely make the drive.

This is hands down the best Mexican food I have had in my entire life. I started with their Wednesday Taco (pictured) deal and it quickly became my every Wednesday lunch because it was amazing food at a great price. I took my wife and our 12 and 9 year old daughter’s this past weekend and we all agreed that it was the best meal we’d had in a long time.
