This restaurant is a great package. The fish here is fresh and the service here is really helpful. They explain every fish on the combo to you and tell you the order they recommend you to eat it. Same with the sake, they have it all lined up on the order you should eat it. Seating here is limited. The normal nigiri combo is the most filling and the best bang for your buck. I wasn’t a huge fan of the premium nigiri combo. They torch more of the fishes but the taste was not as crisp or profound. Sashimi combo was better for the higher price.

Everything was so, so fresh and delicious. Each piece of fish truly tasted like it had been caught just yesterday or something! I do think fishiness is a very subjective matter though—while I thought the trout was fine, my sister said the trout was way too fishy for her taste. And while my scallop tasted more bitter than sweet, my sister’s was perfectly fine. So, definitely some case-by-case matters here. But overall, this was such a pleasant meal. And a great deal at that! I loved the chewiness of the squid (I did think the shiso was too strong but that’s a personal preference), and both the kurodai and amberjack had a nice bite to them while being completely succulent.

And the rice. Oh my gosh, we need to talk about the RICE! The rice wasn’t canvas white like what people typically expect from sushi but rather, a light brown—which made my heart so, so happy because it was indicative of the high-quality vinegar they use to season the sushi rice! While regular, store-bought rice vinegar tends to be almost translucent if not vaguely yellow, well-aged, flavorful vinegar is typically much darker in color, lending the sushi rice a light brown tint even if white rice is used. Not only was the flavor of the shari amazing, the texture and firmness of the individual grains were inexplicably enjoyable as well. Usually, whenever I have good sushi, the spotlight tends to be on the fish more than the rice. However, this time, I felt that the spotlight had to be shared between the two components!

The packaging and the side accompaniments (ginger & wasabi) were fantastic as well. I liked how sturdy the box was and how distinctive the design appeared! The ginger was quite strong, which made for a nice palette cleanser. The wasabi was incredibly strong, much stronger than any conventional wasabi or majority-horseradish counterfeit products, which made my heart even more happy. I really appreciate how Mujiri uses high quality ingredients and products for all aspects of the meal!

I ordered the toro nigiri and the spicy tuna roll to go. The nigiri was fresh, so tasty and perfectly seasoned with a brush of soy sauce and a slight tang from the wasabi. The spicy tuna roll was soooo good, probably my favorite I’ve ever had. We were greeted with a warm welcome from all the staff. The food was prepared fast and I hope to go back soon. I want to try the chawanmushi next time which is a dine-in only dish. Highly recommend!!

Mujiri is a decent place to get quality fish at reasonable prices. They had some options, like Ocean Trout and Atlantic Char, that you won’t find at lower tier sushi restaurants. Though nothing really stood out as great. It was on par with other places I’ve been to.

The staff is spot on with friendly and attentive service. Given how small the restaurant is, the service never felt rushed or chaotic.

However, also because of how small the restaurant is, the atmosphere is not that great. Especially if you are seated next to a loud party like we were. All the diners are so close to each other that it is easy for loud conversations to ruin your experience.

I was really looking forward to trying Mujiri, but I am sad to say I probably won’t be back.

If you’re a sushi lover in Hayward, Mujiri is a must-visit. This spot is all about quality over quantity—you won’t find your typical rolls here, but what you will get is incredibly fresh, high-quality sashimi that’s absolutely worth the price. Yes, it’s a bit pricy for the area, but once you take that first bite, you’ll understand why.

It’s a small, cozy spot so I definitely recommend coming early—we came on a Wednesday around 6pm and got seated right away. Perfect timing! Will definitely be back for another top-tier sushi experience.

Good quality sushi, and sashimi. Already tastes good without wasabi and soy sauce. Our server was excellent. The restaurant is small, only good for group up to 4 people. The only thing I didn’t like is they provided the bill to you after you finished your meal. It made me feel that they want us to leave now. If they have customers waiting, I understand that, but they are not busy at that time.

We had a delicious time trying out Mujiri in downtown Hayward for my husband’s birthday! They do a 7-piece nigiri + 6-piece maki roll special for $25, which is a pretty good deal. Very fresh fish.

I quite enjoyed my spicy tuna maki – no mayo sauce here! And the ume-shiso hosomaki, which is salted plum and mint leaf, was a flavor adventure!

Will definitely go back. It’s a small space, so reservations are recommended if you’re dining in.

Finding a nice sushi place in Hayward has been a challenge, and this place rivals those nice sushi restaurants in SF. It started put as a takeout only place but has since opened up a small dining room with about 4-5 tables and a sushi bar that seats 6-7 people. This place is lnow for their high quality nigri combo, which comes with 7 non-repeated pieces of your choice from a rotating menu of fresh fish, some of which I believe comes directly from Japan, as well as a chef choice maki roll. Some of the choices include Toro (fatty bluefin tuna) and Kanpachi (Amberjack) Hotate (Hokkaido scallop) and Kurodai (black snapper), but they have different fish every week. Needless to say, everything was fresh and delicious, and at $25 per set, you really can’t find a better deal! The sashimi combo is also very good. They do have some exclusive dine-in options as well. During our recent outing, we tried the chanwamushi, which is a steamed egg custard dish, and it was delicious. Overall, I highly recommend this place if you want high-quality sushi without the crazy rolls. Note for all the parents of little kids, this place does not have high chairs.

Been coming to this place for almost a year. NOT ONE SINGLE MISS. Pio, Ramsey and Michael hold it down for sure. Try the Nigiri Combo and either the Trio Toro or Japanese Uni with it. With some tea or sake as you’re fine. Weekends at night you will need a reservation. It’s very intimate spot

Mujiri has become one of my favorite restaurants for fresh sashimi and nigiri. On both occasions, my hubby and I ate at the sushi counter (first experience during dinner and second was over lunch) and the chef provided excellent service, attention and gave recommendations. Tbh, you really can’t go wrong with any items on theur menu. You’ll leave extremely satisfied. There were many togo orders too. Will be tryung take out when I’m unable to actually sit down to enjoy the small, quaint restaurant. This is definitely my newly discovered gem!
