Enroute back home from Florida, we stopped at this eatery. The call of soul food seemed appealing; I was in a mood for some fried chicken.
The location of Deepwoods is a bit obscure, but it had plenty of parking.
Ordered some fried chicken, cabbage, mac and cheese, sweet yams, and a drink. They also included some corn bread. The total was $25/per plate.
The food was very good, albeit, I will say that at 1:54 p.m., the food seemed like it had been re-heated, and or possibly from the day before. Not sure how to feel about either scenarios, but can understand food being reheated. That said, the food was very good and tasteful. The owner or host also seemed very nice and welcoming.
Seems a popular spot for the locals. Saw a few men step in during the 30 mins I stepped by.

Amazing experience. Visited with my group of friends, staff was friendly, caring, and just simply amazing. The food was the best I’ve had, love and soul was put into our meals. I highly recommend and I’ll be back when I’m in the area.

I never knew turnip greens could be so amazing! They were savory and a little sweet and a little spicy, and I could not stop eating them. Our son was drinking the juice from the bowl.
We arrived close to closing, so we had what was left: fried chicken, fried pork chop, greens, green beans, Mac and cheese, and banana pudding, Everything was absolutely delicious, with so much depth of flavor!
They were also two of the nicest people, so friendly and accommodating and of course wonderful chefs. Some regulars who were finishing up were friendly and joking around. Four little adorable kids were running around playing outside, and they’d come in and help out with clearing plates and sweeping.
We loved every minute of it and I still long for those turnip greens.

Absolutely LOVE DeepWoods…great tasting food with outstanding, family-feel, customer-focused service! I have eaten so many items off of the menu and all of it tastes good. Every time I visit Montgomery, AL I go to DeepWoods!

A few months ago I unexpectedly met the owner of DeepWoods. He asked me to stop by and try his food if I was in the area. I agreed. When I arrived yesterday I wasn’t sure what to expect. The ambiance inside was pleasing. The owner was thrilled to see me and made several recommendations based on my eating preferences. The food was delicious. (Chopped steak, rice/gravy, Greens, speckled butter beans, yams and sweet tea). The staff were attentive and respectful. Fellow customers were friendly and willing to answer questions about their past experiences. I would highly recommend Deep Woods. It is several miles off I65 in Alabama but the extra drive is worth the experience.

Have never had a bad meal from these wonderful ladies. Was recommended from someone I served with in the military im just gonna tell the truth I have been treated like family since the day I walked in. Delicious food and great service. Would say the same thing if I had just walked in. Thank you ladies and I hope you continue to be blessed.

Can’t travel through the south and not stop for southern cooking. Friendly ladies behind the counter. Reasonably priced. Peach cobbler fresh from the oven, baked and fried chicken, lots of good sides to choose from. And even easy parking for our RV by pulling off the road in front of the building next door. Loved it. Thank you.

So glad we took the 8 mile detour off of I-65S to give DeepWoods a try. The building and interior are quite unassuming, so we drove right by and had to turn around. But boy, are we glad we did!! The staff behind the counter were super friendly and made us feel welcome, and the food was as great as the service! The menu changes some day-to-day, but my husband and I were there on Monday and enjoyed fried chicken with field peas, fabulous corn casserole, and yams, and baked porkchop with gravy, turnips, field peas, and apple cobbler. Everything was hot and delicious and we left there feeling “fat and happy”. We’ll definitely stop in again next time we’re passing by.
