Our 1st time here. Arrived at 5:46pm according to the time stamp on my 1st photo. Place is attached to a old church but amole dining area in a comfortable setting. We were seated within a reasonable amount of time. Waitress came over for drink orders. She told us not to drink the water and suggested bottled water because of Carlinville’s water quality. Sure that’s fine, we’ll have 3 bottles. Total of 8 tables that had people at them with still ample room for numerous guests. Looking around I noticed we were the only ones drinking bottled water everyone else has glasses of water. Maybe they needed to boost profits. So our order was placed and we waited and waited and waited and waited some more. Food seems to be coming out of the kitchen very very slowly. Anyway at 6:39pm after almost an hour our food arrived. Wife’s food was cold. My burger order medium was cooked well done. Not impressed at all. No need to complain to them, I paid and have zero desire to ever return. Hopefully they get things together becuase this was a complete failure.

Stopped here on a day trip over from St. Louis. A great place, with absolutely delicious food. Our server was very sweet, which is always a plus. My husband had the Rueben sandwich, which he said was great. I had the chef salad and it was excellent. Lovely building, with an interesting history. We will definitely be back again!

Would like to give it zero stars. My latest experience at Magnolia’s was terrible. My son and I ordered Lasagna, which I’ve had before and it was very good. Not this time, it was runny, the cheese wasn’t melted, and it taste like someone threw a lot of sugar in some Basil Prego. It was too sweet to eat. Both my son and I quit eating after a few bites, all we could take. The waitress was nice and efficient and brought us a box. I did not say anything to the waitress, as she had no control over it. I did however tell the cashier about it. He didn’t even respond, just asked me to sign receipt, and then walked away. I would have been much more tolerant if they had offered an explanation, or apologized, but just ignoring me wasn’t respectful. They lost a customer for life, me, my wife, and my son. I would not recommend Magnolia’s as as a “good place to eat”

I love Magnolias — not only is the food great, but the owners are friendly and the staff is super efficient and nice. The food is fresh, tasty and served in large portions, and the atmosphere is sunny, clean and has a comfortable decor — interesting and nice without being stuffy. A truly great find in a small town. And if you are coming from St. Louis, take the back roads through Alton and enjoy the countryside — it’s a nice drive.

This is the last place you should go if you want food you can eat. 1 1/2 hours and no food. Finally food and its burnt to a crisp, and chicken the blood was running out on the plate. only good thing happening here is the waitresses we’re very nice. Feel sorry for the workers. They need a cook. 23 people and half the orders were wrong. What a disappointment. If I could have given no stars I would have. And to let everyone know I’m 70 and first time I’ve ever left a review like this.

It was awful. Made reservations six weeks in advance for our Christmas party. Very very poor service we had to wait an hour and 40 minutes on our lunch there was only seven in our party they did not come back and ask us if we wanted any additional drinks I had to get up and actually go up and get my drink refilled had to wait another half hour after we told him we wanted our bill to get the bill so we could leave. Most of our party did not like the food they did get. Will not be going back

If you want a decent place to yake your elderly parent to eat at in Carlinville, this is the only place to go. Just order the strip steak med well. My med rare was near impossible to cut or chew. But we will be coming here explicitly.

Hey previous patrons of Magnolias will love the transformation onto Tangled Vine. One of original owners is back so that’s all it took to win my business back! Give it try soon…
