Gunselman’s Tavern has been The Public House in Fairview Park for 83 years. Recent renovations include new floor and ceiling in the bar, refurbished 100 year old mahoghany bartop, a brick patio, refurbished original barstools, updated air conditioning and clean, new bathrooms. We have been going here for years and I’d say over the past year the quality has been declining. Ordered a burger with avocado on it and the avocado was black and rotten through. Called to get my money back and only offered me more avocado if I wanted. This was after I was already home 20 min away. Lady on the phone went and checked the avocado they had and said everything looked normal and that it’s cut fresh. This tells me that the person making this saw how nasty it was AND STILL put it on.
When picking up my food initially I had also doubled checked for my extra side of sauce which was not there. The cook in the back insisted twice he put it in there after I stated twice that it is NOT in there and had to pull it out again to show them. Also upgraded fries to the garlic parm fries and there was basically nothing added to them. Poor customer service, poor quality. This is not the first time I’ve had a problem here. Won’t be wasting my time here anymore after this experience. If they had just said sorry and owned up to them putting rotten food on my burger and offered me my money back then I’d give them another chance but didt happen.

We order from Gunselman’s very frequently and usually have great experiences, which is why this one has stuck with me. I did try reaching out directly with feedback and haven’t heard back, so I’m sharing it here.
Our takeout order on Thursday, December 11 had a few issues. I ordered the breakfast burger cooked medium well, but it came out quite rare (photo attached). I also ordered a Smashburger with the sauce on the side, but it arrived already dressed, which meant my child would not eat it. On top of that, the butter cup for the sweet potato tots opened and spilled over the burger and tots. I understand spills can happen during transport, but combined with the other issues, it made for a frustrating dinner.
My boyfriend usually places our orders and we typically have great luck, which is why this felt like an off night. We genuinely enjoy Gunselman’s and order often, so I wanted to share the feedback in hopes of better experiences going forward.

12 dollars for one egg roll!?!? This was two egg rolls 6 months ago and three a year or two before that! If it’s this expensive to make just take it off the menu!! It’s good but not $12 good.

We had a really positive experience with picking up food from here. Our order was finished quickly. Our food was accurate and the portions were quite generous. Our burgers were perfect and they were kind enough to keep our burger sauce on the side to keep our burgers from getting soggy on our drive home. Despite having a twenty minute drive home, our food was still warm and our fries were still crispy. I also appreciate that they gave us everything we needed for our food including condiments, napkins and silverware without us needing to ask. To top it off, our food was delicious. The hype over Gunselman’s food is well deserved. We look forward to returning in the future.

Almost everything was made wrong, and made poorly. A pretty unfortunate combination. I rarely leave bad reviews. If I like it, I always make sure to leave a review to help out our local businesses. If I don’t like it, I don’t say anything, I don’t want to hurt their business. This is an exception.
I ordered the chicken paprikash over pierogis, the Philly cheese steak, the chicken philly, mozzarella logs, and a burger. Firstly, the pierogis were on top of the paprikash, instead of underneath. Which is an odd choice to me. You would think the pierogis would be better underneath so they can absorb the paprikash flavor. Regardless, the pierogi was bland. I’m sure it has some seasoning, but none of it was detectable, and it really needed salt. It was well constructed, and wasn’t dry, if it had more seasoning it could have been really good. The chicken paprikash was also extremely bland, desperately needing salt, and the chicken was a little dry as well.
I also ordered a chicken Philly. It had no cheese. That’s an employee forgetting something, a mistake that is inevitably going to happen sometimes. However, the chicken was also bland. Again, no detectable seasoning, and it was extremely dry.
The Philly cheese steak, also had no cheese. And again, the steak was extremely dry. Dry to the point that it was crusty. but it did have a little more flavor than the other items.
As with everything else we had, the mozzarella logs had no detectable seasoning in the breading and there was no cheese pull, which means the cheese wasn’t nice and melty. That’s probably because it was a to go order, so I wouldn’t hold that against them, but it really needs some seasoning.
The fries, once again, needed salt, and was not particularly crispy.
I did not taste the burger so I can’t comment on that.
The only positive was the employee at the register, who was very friendly.

First time ordering here for the Lenten fish fry. Best fish, Mac & cheese and hush puppies I’ve had in a while. Plenty of food, nice presentation. Everything was correct. A little pricey and the pick up process needs improvement. Overall not too shaby

Definitely need to change the description of the “steak” soup… Looked and sounded amazing from the picture and description what I received was a lazy “chefs” attempt at what looked and tasted like watered down chili. If you used AI to generate the description probably don’t because it was WAY off. If you stand by it to each their own I guess! Forgot the dessert in my order atleast twice just an overall subpar experience 2/3 of the times I’ve ordered from here don’t see me making a 4th.

RIP OFF! Stopped for their perch dinner tonight. $30 dollars for 3 of the smallest pieces of perch and a handful of fries. Perch was incredibly dry. Go somewhere else.. public house, flat iron.. etc.

First and last time going here. I called to place a pickup order for a cheeseburger (well done) and fries. I received just a plain burger with no LTO even, not cooked to my specified temp. Burger is just unseasoned meat shaped into a patty. Fast food burgers have more taste to them than this. “Award winning burgers”… yeah maybe if you have only eaten from a dumpster for a year before eating here. Avoid at all costs. Harry Buffalo has a cheeseburger that is 4x better than this at the same price.
