We were craving some home cooked meal and found EE Home Cooking, so here we are. The restaurant is pretty small and is quite home-ish. There were two people eating and a guy ordering a takeout. We sat down in their wooden table and here are what we ordered for lunch:

Mapo Tofu with Minced Beef Plate (lunch special) – 5 out of 5
Their Mapo tofu has a little kick to it in combination with shredded beef in it. It’s an unique take to mapo tofu since most mapo tofu these days are heavy in sauce mixed with vegetables or that it has a mix of pork inside. Although it’s different, I kinda like the mapo tofu version EE Home Cooking is bringing into the table very much and I would recommend if you’re a fan of mapo tofu to try their take on it as well.

Sweet & Sour Pork Plate (lunch special) – 5 out of 5
The sweet & sour pork plate is a fairly common dish that the Cantonese cuisine make well. EE’s take is no exception. A dish well done and you can’t go wrong whether you’ve had it plenty of times or is just trying for the first time.

Salt & Pepper Spare Ribs – 5 out of 5
Yet, another Cantonese stable. The salt & Pepper spare ribs EE does a great job with it especially on the salt, the pepper mix. In combination with some freshly fried pork chop, yum!

The owner and I chatted a little. She mentioned about their take out to be discounted. 3 dishes for $39.99 is really a steal. I might just give that a try next time and so should you!

3 dishes for $30?! Can’t get better than this. Definitely one of my favorite places to get Chinese food in Fremont.

Place is small with a few tables but most people seem to take it to go. If you dine in though, you get the soup of the day! Soup is typically a clear herby broth. Food is flavorful, portions are decent, and service is great and fast. I love the sweet shanxi fish fillet (tastes almost like sweet and sour fish) as well as their black bean fish. But really, you can’t go wrong with anything you order here!!!

In addition they have lunch specials on weekdays (except Wednesday because they are closed) and accept credit cards with no extra charge!

Ordered the seafood tofu hot pot with rice and soup. The soup was an unusual bird’s nest soup with yam and corn on the cob. Before I was half done with the soup, the hot pot was ready! The squid was tender and the shrimp tasted fresh. The fish filet wasn’t overcooked. It was served piping, burning hot – perfect. Note that you can ask the chef for less salt or less oil – professional Chinese chefs are never offended if you ask for small adjustments. The total came to $13.02 after tax. Service was fast and friendly. The only improvement I could ask for is better attention to cleanliness (having to shoo two flies while eating ruins the experience). Otherwise, a solid five stars. I’ll be back to try their lunch specials.

Decent quality food, but serious issues of quantity and price. A lunch plate (with chow mein for rice substitution) was $20. The amount of food was probably the same that you would get in a panda express order.

The chow mein was almost equal parts bean sprouts than noodles, and there was much less meat than vegetables in the entrees. Refilling a glass of water cost 50¢, which is pretty crazy.

If you want to support a local establishment, go ahead and break the bank, but if you just want a bite to eat, you are better off saving your money and going somewhere else.

You should really try this place and support a fantastic local business!
We recently had this restaurant reserved for a family meal for 12 of us. We ordered everything family style, and a wide selection of dishes – fish, chicken, pork, beef, and vegetarian. Everything was fantastic! The lady who runs the restaurant is super friendly and the service is great. We have been disappointed with BKs Bistro this past year – (I’m guessing that they changed cooks) so I am super happy to have a new go-to place. We’ve eaten here twice this month and it has been great both times. For those of you who have lived in this area for many decades, you may remember the Pine Garden on Smith Street in Union City (it’s now the Bird Haus Beer Garden which is good in a different way). The Pine Garden had the world’s best Tomato Beef Chow Mein. EE Home Cookings version is very good but I’m still searching for that Pine Garden flavor. Lol.
