My daughters and I finally found the spot for our monthly Pajama Breakfast!!
As a Hudson Ave kid born in the 80s, G&G was a staple in my childhood memories. This past Sunday, I got to share this part of my life and culture with my daughters.
Walking in, I was instantly taken back in time to the morning kitchen smells and sounds of my grandmothers’ homes. The air was filled with old school jams, the hiss of Doc’s sizzling grill and humming conversations. On a rainy Sunday, the restaurant somehow felt sunny, warm, and bright. I got a feeling this effect has everything to do with the smiles that Mr. Richard Gause and his beautiful sister greet their customers with.
The fooooodd!! Was everything we needed. Seasoned to southern perfection, generously sized servings and prepared from the heart.
One of my daughters’ highlights was being invited to sing Happy Birthday to Mr. Jeff, friend, and customer of G&G II. What kid doesn’t like pancakes and singing? Mr. Jeff had been celebrating his birthday all week with his own family, and the celebration continued with the newest members of the G&G family.
I’m so thankful that the Gause Family is still feeding soul food and familial love to the Rochester community. Our monthly PJ Breakfast always felt like it was missing something, and now it’s truly a family affair!!

I have been to G&G Westside for steak sandwiches however when I was in Florida, I saw a picture of their breakfast and I got so excited because the food looked so pretty when I arrived at the airport my husband picked me up and the first thing I said was hello honey we gotta go to G&G’s downtown for breakfast. I showed him the picture from Facebook and two days later we were able to go. I loved the decor, the atmosphere the music and above all the staff that greets you so warmly they made our food and there was not a long wait. I am not a fish eater however, my husband ordered fish and grits and it looked so good that I had to taste some and I thought it was delicious and I am fish sensitive, however, for those that like fish, you will enjoy it along with smooth grits.
My eggs were fluffy, and the bacon is nice and crunchy. They have lots of beverages to choose from.

Super friendly staff and the most incredible comfort food. Had the surf and turf and it was amazing. The G&G sauce is a must have. I’ll be coming back again for sure. Not much of a dine in spot but the games and the food certainly make up for the ambiance.

More than once Mr. G himself has been in there working when I’ve grabbed my food. I will be a continued customer.

Ordered grits with salt, pepper, and cheese, sausages, a Snapple and a side of jam. Only received grits with cheese, and sausages. Wasn’t ready when I arrived. Sat for about 5-10 minutes waiting. Definitely won’t be returning. First and last time trying it out. Employees behaving like children on top of that.

Out of towners killing time before hotel room was ready. Tried this place out and had a very tasty lunch. Friendly staff and clean space. A bit pricey but hey, it’s downtown. I’m sure rents are high. Stop by when you’re in town. I don’t think they will disappoint.

Forgot to take a before picture of the wings and fries but as you can see it’s gone and so delicious! I’m full now so I’m not able to finish my steak sub but I know that’s going to be just as good! Make sure y’all come on down, food is a 10/10 highly recommended ❤️
