The bf took me for a sweet treat and didn’t realize it was cash only. The owner still gave us our ice cream and said to pay him back tomorrow! Obviously we did and got some more ice cream the next day. Super tasty and a lot of ice cream for the price!

Great little hidden secret! Fantastic flavors of ice cream, generous scoops, and crisp waffle cones. Will have to go back to try the frozen lemonade and Dr Pepper/RC Cola floats.
I never knew it was even there in the old abandoned looking service station with the historical marker out front, but I was looking for a new scoop shop that didn’t require driving to Roanoke and this is a winner. You can pull into their lot from Lee Highway, but you’re less likely to miss it if you pull onto the side road first.
Just be prepared that they’re cash only and hours and flavors change, so check their FB or Instagram before going.

It is so encouraging to have an independent business with an eye on quality and pride of craftsmanship (in reality it is frozen custard, being less airy and smoother than traditional ice cream) that serves high quality dairy, not soft serve and which is not a faceless chain business! Thank you, Kenny/Pycone Creamery, for being a brave entrepreneur. We ordered cups of the cookies and cream, a brownie chocolate chip, and mocha chip. The custard was incredible; very creamy, dense, rich and smooth…the real deal. The mocha is one of the best I’ve ever had…very intense and not subtle! I understand that they rotate flavors on their menu too.
We went after sundown and a bit more lighting in the parking entrance would be helpful. I’d be interested to see if they expand with a dine-in room down the line, hire some friendly young people to dish and greet customers, and sell quarts or half gallons of their delicious product.
Can’t wait to see the big sign go up next to the road!
There is a bit of a “soup related Seinfeld episode” element to the whole experience which I find precious.
$5 cups $7cones. Won’t leave hungry! They are basically a meal and dessert in one.
Looking forward to returning! Nothing like some motivation to keep exercising!

I stopped at the Pycone Creamery on my way into town after a long drive from Indiana. Hickman cemetery road is my way to my old house… home from childhood… lived here 35 years. I was thrilled to see the little shop and cannot say enough about the kindness of the owner or the quality of the ice cream. It was the very best way to come home after 10 years away. Highly recommend the egg custard and roasted vanilla bean.
