I am not exaggerating when I say Grinders was the sole, driving force behind our ‘Bay Area Comeback Food Tour’ after our geographically misguided move out of state. My boyfriend’s joy was bordering spiritual; he hadn’t had this particular sandwich in twenty years, and these babies were appearing to him in dreams.

Also, a rousing shoutout to the owner, Peter. He is genuinely one of the funniest people you will ever meet. Peter, you made our pilgrimage back feel exactly as magical as our childhood memories. I will be back every time we return to the Bay Area, and I will be relentlessly shilling for a Grinders sub for the rest of my life.

I was born and raised on the East Coast, where grinders were invented, and this is the best grinder I’ve had in California.

The owner is pleasant and super friendly. It’s great to have a no nonsense straight shooter who takes his business seriously. He provides a service to this community and needs an award.

I don’t get on this side of 13 very often but when I do I always stop at Grinders Submarine Sandwich Spot for an Amazing lunch!
I had just dropped off Pernod Leer’s Warthog, Walter up at his compound atop Broadway Terrace, and thought I’d bop across hwy 13 for a Grinder, and it proved to be a great decision because my sandwich was Heroic in every sense of the word. ☆☆☆☆☆

By far the most expensive sandwich I’ve ever had!! I thought $15 or $16 for a sandwich was expensive. But $31 dollars???? This is a one time mistake and I will not be back a second time. Save your time and hard earned money . It is not worth it! The place was a mess. Looked like a storage room. I peaked in and had to ask if they were open. I thought maybe they were closed and were in the process of restocking and cleaning up. This is the lowest rating I’ve ever given. I gave 2 stars for customer service due to the ladies that were making the sandwiches, they were nice. The sandwich was fine. But definitely not good enough to justify charging $31 including a soda. For $31 you can buy an XL pizza somewhere else and feed a whole family!! Not a fan of the tall skinny man there either. He might be the owner. I asked him for hand sanitizer, he wouldn’t even provide that! No apologies nothing! Everybody gives you hand sanitizer, it’s a basic necessity! I find him cunning. Just my opinion.

Sandwich was good. But don’t think I’ll be back. My 9 inch sandwich came out to 19.56. Pretty much if you want to add anything to the sandwich will take it there. I think I added bacon. I guess maybe more upfront of add on price. I’m guessing the basic bread and meat and lettuce will be around $14. I guess it’s my fault when he asked what I wanted on the sandwich and I’m just saying yes or know. Next thing I know the screen said 19.56 lol

Great simple sandwich shop. And the proprietor is passionate about his sandwiches! He says he imports his turkey from South Carolina and has a special recipe for mayo. Default is served on a hotdog bun, not sure if you can choose anything else- next time I will ask. Cute neighborhood too.

While the subs are decent, the service sucks. This guy has had a chip on his shoulder since the 90s. Also guaranteed to make women feel uncomfortable. Learn better people skills, and don’t charge $30 for a sub.

Paid over $20 for a mediocre hot dog bun with supermarket deli meat all while the cashier insulted my choices

The sandwich was average at best. The reason I’m giving this place a one star, is because all their chips being sold , are expired. Came back to let them know to I needed a replacement and the owner asked if they tasted good. I said no then he said I can grab another. No Bueno
