Overall experience was great. Food was great. Too bad the location is not the best otherwise this place will be packed all the time. Compared to Boiling Pot this place delivers a real punch.
I got the traditional hot pot (pictured) with a medium spiced level and it was delicious!
My husband got a dry hot pot, the Rose Mala Xiang Guo. He said it was yummy and had good flavor. Definitely spicy even at the most mild spice level.
Would definitely come back next time we are in town!
On Saturday, I dined in and ordered Mala Spicy #3. I added veggies, seafood, and beef. You can make your own sauce (minced garlic. Chile oil pepper, peanut sauce, cilantro…yummy)
What you see in the picture is only $20 — you pick own vegetables meats seafood… and they weigh it by the pound, and you choose from stir fry or soup. Healthy, delicious, and reasonably priced. Plus, there’s plenty of parking, and the servers are always friendly.
I’ll definitely be back. Pick your own toppings (various vegetables, noodles, tofu, mushrooms, and meats), there’s a toppings bar as well. Multiple broths, and many things that aren’t hot pot as well. Also, there’s Soju (rice wine).
Though I can handle spice when eating, the spicy absolutely destroyed me that night. Would definitely go down one next time.
Price was higher than I would’ve wanted to pay. 1 lb minimum is kind of lame. Would consider getting enough food for 2 servings next time since 1 lb of food is too much to eat but not enough to take home.
You scan the menu on the table. If you want to get the “malatang” and it’s variety, either the normal with broth, the dry stir fried, or the black bean sauce style, you will be able to pick out the ingredients that you want for it. They provide a bowl where you can put all the ingredients that you want from all the fish cakes, tofu, meatballs, meat, and veggies. They have a good selection to choose from. You pay by the pound but they have a minimum of 1 pound for one dish.
For kids, they can make a non spicy broth, just let them know that you want no spice at all.
They also serve rice cake dish, rice balls, hot pot, and some fried pork, chicken, or shrimp with some sauce. The creamy shrimp one is good! I’ve not tried the other ones, but they look good.
Plenty of parking on their lot as well
I recommend coming here if you want to be able to customize your malatang bowl and have it made to order. Flavor is good and worth visiting, especially on a cold day where you are craving something soupy and spicy
To my delight, the food was outstanding. My husband enjoyed the rich malatang broth, while I loved the rose mala xiang guo, where the creaminess balanced the spiciness perfectly. The thick sauce paired well with the ingredients.
We also ordered the Cream Shrimp Guobaorou as a side dish. Its sweet sauce complemented the spiciness of the other dishes, making it a great option for those who can’t handle too much heat.
I can see myself visiting this restaurant frequently in the future, and I hope they continue to maintain their high standards!
