A friend recommended SGD Tofu House because I was craving something simple and comforting, like the Korean food we used to eat back in college. The place has that no-frills vibe, and the menu looks decent enough — but the prices? Huge red flag.
Tofu soup for $22?
Kalbi for $42?
Come on.
I still went ahead and ordered, thinking maybe the taste would justify it. But after the first bite, I knew immediately it wasn’t worth anywhere close to what they’re charging. The flavors were mediocre at best, and the service definitely didn’t match the price point either.
If you’re craving Korean comfort food or soup dishes, there are plenty of better spots to check out. Sadly, this one just isn’t worth it.
Their banchan is “fresh”, meaning their kimchi hasn’t had time to absorb the flavors, making it really watery. Ugh.
Go to the ramen (Kumako Den) place next door. Long wait but the food is better.
The service is nice though! And it been in business forever, so they’re doing something right.
The food is pretty good, the price is decent, the portion is right on.
