Gate City is a taproom that serves beer and spirits that are brewed and distilled here at home in New Mexico. We have a wide variety of mixed drinks and cocktails that feature our signature liquors from Left Turn Distilling in Albuquerque, NM. We have a full kitchen that showcases Italian sandwiches and pastas

I understand they can sell the hard liquor stuff as long as it’s produced in New Mexico. No worries there, the selection they have is tasty and strong!
They can make pretty much whatever drink you want, including blended drinks! (Pinché Coladas for all!)
The food menu is eclectic. Italian nachos instead of regular. A few sandwiches… The french fries ARE really good. Nothing else I’ve had is really amazing, but it’ll do. I haven’t yet had everything, of course. Maybe the food is just so unusual, I’m not used to it?
The do have food specials, from time to time, for holidays, such as St Patrick’s Day they’ll bring out corned beef and cabbage.
There are a couple of TVs here. Not any big screens, but a couple screens showing the weather (can be a big deal in Raton!) and advertisements of their specialty drinks (did I mention those? They’re really delicious!).
I haven’t been here when sports are going on. I think with a few big screen TVs, football Sundays could be a really big deal here. It’s a great place!
By March, 2022, they have an internet-connected jukebox. This means with an app on your phone, you can choose to play music right from the comfort of your seat/table! The music selection is wide and vast with most everything from all genres, country, rock, and pop, including latest hits and classic favorites. I observed people up dancing to some of the tunes. Lots of fun!
There’s a stage at one end of the bar (the more I think about it, the more I realize how BIG this place is!). On some nights, they have live bands playing. Again, different music types rock/country, so it provides a variety. The stage can be used for other things, too, such as comedians and karaoke.
One room I haven’t explored at all is sort of an arcade. There are several video games and a POOL TABLE. Probably much more, as it appears to be a big room (I mentioned this place is BIG!). Gives me another reason to go back!
The staff here is pretty epic, all working together. Whether their waiter/waitress or bartenders alike, it doesn’t seem to matter. They work in harmony, interacting with the guests and always with smiling faces! A couple people I will call out specifically are Chris and Elena (spelling?). They are a true DELIGHT and a wonderful part of the Gate City Experience!
Heck! One night I was there, it seemed it was Chris’ night off, and he was there as a customer! That shows how wonderful this place is when the staff goes there even on their day off!
Gate City is now our go-to whenever we’re in Raton. The cliché of Cheers, “where everybody knows your name” is not a cliché here. There are many, MANY customers who all seem to know each other and welcomed my wife and I as if we’d known them for years. Super friendly place with just as friendly customers. We love it!
Bonus: they’re dog friendly outside! They brought our pup a bowl of water and we’re very nice.
Bonus: if Jim is slinging the drinks, ask him for a road trip itinerary!
