Nice little diner to grab a meal at. I hear its very popular for breakfast, we visited for dinner. The fish was local and fresh but a little too fishy for us. The potato skins appetizer was very tasty! Our waitress was very nice and made sure we had everything we needed.

Had it on our way up from southern Illinois to Minnesota. I kid you not, I had lost my sense of taste and Calvin’s blt made me taste food again. Wonderful cup of coffee too. My honey got the patty melt and we agreed it was delicious. Prices are good for today’s market. All in all, if you’re on the road and need to make a stop for food, or in our case we were getting road sick, Calvin’s is that small town feel you need. (I’d attach photos but we ate it too quick)

The food fills you up and it doesn’t come with any surprises — no bugs, nothing weird, and the staff is always really nice. I’ve never had an issue with the people here.

That being said, I do have a small gripe. Whenever I order anything besides breakfast, something small tends to be missing. Today it was the rye bread on a patty melt. This is the fifth time I’ve ordered a patty melt and gotten regular bread instead, even though the menu specifically says rye.

At this point it feels less like a one-off mistake and more like rye is being intentionally skipped to save a buck. If rye isn’t available, that’s fine — but then the menu should be updated so customers know what they’re actually getting. Rye bread is the best part maaaaan.

Visited this place on a Saturday night, we walked in and there was not a sign “wait to be seated” or “seat yourself” we waitied while the waitress went in and out of kitchen waiting on two of only three tables that had customers and never acknowledged us! After a good 10-12 minutes of being ignored a waitress finally seated us without a “welcome” or even a smile. Being late in the evening we ordered something easy, a Turkey Club Sandwich w/Fries, Order of Cheese Balls, Tater Skins, & Drinks with a total of $42.61 including tip! Disappointed in the little amount of meat on sandwich & no cheese. Appetizers were good but only gave us 1 bowl of ranch to split between both sides. About an hour before closing the waitress turned some customers away. Had to get our own condiments and notice a dog in the other room!? They could of been short staffed or maybe just a bad night but we will definitely pass on this place.

I’ve only ever had breakfast here but it was great. Hot fresh and made to order. Service can be a little slow but I’m not normally in a hurry so it hasn’t made a difference to me. Staff is friendly.

Breakfast was mediocre. Nothing special. Average diner-style food. Wasn’t too excited when I walked in and it smelled like an ashtray. I don’t smoke and don’t want to smell it when I’m eating. The chef smokes in the room in the back. Just disgusting. The waitress was nice and friendly and quick as she could be with our drinks. Won’t be back and wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

Food used to be a lot better quality. 2 of us had the tenderloin that were horrible. 2 of us had burgers that were ok. The server was nice, but there were no refills on drinks. 15% automatic gratuity on groups of 6 or more.

After standing in the lobby for 5 minutes we were told to seat ourselves (which is fine) but then after ordering our meals along with an appetizer it was 45 minutes before we received our food in a mostly empty restaurant (3 of 10 tables were occupied when we sat down) and not only did we not receive our appetizer at all, the food was warm (not hot) and was extremely bland and basic, had i not been overly hungry from a long day at work I probably would of opted for the Chesters Chicken at the gas station down the road.
