Worst experience ever! Black Salt restaurant is truly the worst. My friends and I ordered chicken biryani after being told it would be spicy, but it had no spice at all. On top of that, they added tamarind seeds—I have never seen tamarind seeds in biryani in my life. I specifically ordered chicken biryani, but they served us boneless chicken biryani without giving any proper information. In the end, they claimed the dish is meant only for North Indians and not suitable for South Indians. I was completely shocked by this response. The manager was extremely unprofessional and disappointing.

What a happy discovery! We were visiting family in St. Louis, and are already looking forward to a return trip to Black Salt next time we are in town. They had Kurkuri Bhindi (crispy okra), which is one of my favorite dishes, but rarely found on menus of Indian restaurants in the U.S. (I have only found it once in New York City otherwise), and it made both my tastebuds and my soul happy to enjoy Chef Pushpinder’s version. Everything we ordered was delicious, including the Lassi and the house cocktail. Service was engaging and with a smile, and food arrived promptly. The food we ordered was so good that I would like to go back and try everything on the menu because I know I will find new things to love, just because Black Salt will make them so well. One of my top Indian food experiences ever (including as compared to places in India, Uganda, and the UK). Do yourself a favor and go here now!

I had one of the worst restaurant experiences I’ve ever had at Black Salt. I ordered my food online and arrived to pick it up. When I got there, the restaurant was completely empty and my order was already ready. After telling the staff the name on the order and what the order contained, the server insisted that I show my ID before she would give me the food.

I explained that I didn’t have my ID on me, but it should have been obvious that the order was mine. I was the only person in the restaurant and there were no other pickup orders. Instead of trying to resolve the situation calmly, the employee became extremely rude and started raising her voice, accusing me of trying to steal the food and refusing to give me the order.

Eventually she called her manager, and after that they finally gave me the food. However, the entire interaction was very uncomfortable and unprofessional. To make matters worse, I had specifically requested that the food not be spicy, but what I received was extremely spicy. It was honestly the spiciest food I’ve ever had, to the point where I was sweating and feeling lightheaded while trying to eat it.

Between being treated like I was trying to steal, being yelled at, and then receiving food that clearly ignored my request, the experience was awful. I will definitely not be returning.

I’ve been to Black Salt Chesterfield location a several times, and I really liked the food there. However, my recent experience at the new location in Creve Coeur wasn’t as good as I would like. It looked like they have a different menu than the other location. There was no biriyani dish that I liked.
-Food wise: Our Masala chai and mango lassi were great. Garlic naan was amazing – the best! We ordered lamb vindaloo and chicken tikka masala with garlic naan to share between two of us. Both sauce was delicious. However, I had to send the tikka masala back to the kitchen to cook again …because the chicken was still raw inside.
-Service was friendly but kinda slow… We had to wait quite a while for our orders.
-In term of location and ambiance, I liked here more – plenty of parking spots, much bigger space, relaxing vibe, nice music etc.

Food was excellent! New building very clean, friendly waitresses. Cannot say enough about how good all the food was. One of those restaurants where everything you got was yummy and you want to try everything on the menu. 10/10 will be going back

I am a huge fan of Black Salt in Chesterfield so I’ve been excited to try this second location. I got the lunch special of Tikki Masala paneer and it was perfection! Full of flavor and perfectly spiced. Service was impeccable! The only thing that concerned me was that the dining room wasn’t more full so check it out and bring a friend! Lunch specials are a great deal but the variety remains with the full size entrees. I would be remiss not to strongly recommend the old fashioned.

We ordered over the phone. My husband waited a HOUR for food. When he got in the car, he didn’t recognize what was in the bag. When he went back in, he was informed that the dish I ordered was no longer on the menu. WHY NOT INFORM ME WHEN I ORDERED? They put a RANDOM dish as a replacement and did not tell us. This is extremely unacceptable and manipulative. I am very disappointed since I could have just chosen a different dish but was not given a choice. I will not be coming back.

The food here was phenomenal. We started with the samosa chaat. It was colorful and perfectly spiced. For entrees, we ordered kadai paneer and vegetable korma. The portion sizes were enormous. These were easily the largest servings I have had in an Indian recipe. Both dishes were extremely flavorful and fresh. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Black Salt, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment I walked in, I was captivated by the elegant ambiance, a perfect blend of modern sophistication and traditional Indian charm.

The menu was a celebration of India’s diverse culinary heritage, showcasing a thoughtful balance of classic dishes and innovative creations. To start, I tried the Pani Puri Duo as an appetizer, which was an absolute delight! The crisp puris paired with two unique, flavorful pani options offered a refreshing and creative twist on a beloved classic.

Next came the Mysore Tomato Shorba soup, a comforting burst of flavors – warm, tangy, and delicately spiced, perfectly setting the tone for the courses to follow.

For the mains, the Butter Paneer was pure indulgence, with its creamy, velvety gravy and perfectly cooked paneer cubes that melted in the mouth. The Chicken Vindaloo was equally spectacular, offering a bold, tangy, and spicy flavor profile that paired beautifully with the soft, fragrant naan and basmati rice. Both dishes were crafted with care and packed with authentic Indian flavors that left a lasting impression.

To finish, I was absolutely blown away by their signature Pistachio Kulfi, made from scratch in-house. This dessert was the perfect conclusion to an already spectacular meal – rich, creamy, and infused with the natural sweetness of pistachios. It was a delightful balance of tradition and artistry.

What truly set Black Salt apart was the impeccable service. The staff was warm, attentive, and deeply knowledgeable about the menu, offering spot-on recommendations that elevated the entire experience.

The attention to detail, from the exquisite table settings to the curated music, created an atmosphere of sheer indulgence. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply looking for an unforgettable meal, Black Salt is an absolute must-visit.

I can’t wait to return and explore more of their incredible menu. A true gem in the fine dining scene!
