I came here to place an order on September 14th for my daughter’s birthday party on November 15th. (About 3 months in advance) I placed my order with the owner Maria (who makes the cakes herself) I showed her these two photos and sent them to her like she asked. She said she could easily get it done no problem. I also got a 4inch round smash cake both prepaid for. Three days before my pickup date I went to make sure everything will be how I wanted it to look. She then tells me she has nothing to make this cake and there was “no detail given for it”. (Again, she took the order herself and had two photos to reference. Which apparently she lost.) She had my phone number but never reached out to me, I have no idea what she would have done if I didn’t show up to double check everything. I had to again tell her what this cake was supposed to be and how I wanted it even though it was already written down. Then she tells me the Mickey Mouse head shapes were going to be styrofoam, when they were supposed to be fondant and if I wanted fondant I’d have to pay more. She told me she was going to try her best to make it how I wanted or “even better”. That situation in its self was super frustrating because she had three months to get everything together. Today my husband went to pick up the cake and it was this. Nothing like the photo, no Mickey heads on the side and the colors are completely off and everything is sloppy. She also didn’t make the smash cake and had to make it while he was there. Then proceeded to try to give him a heart shaped cake. She never once apologized or took accountability. After I showed up to see the cake in person she told me it wasn’t a big deal and to pick off the balls on the side and do it myself to make it look like Mickey. She was only trying to give money back on the smash cake ($40) and the tip (that was given before hand $37.40) I demanded a full refund of my $224.40. Now im left without a cake for my daughter’s first birthday party because Maria does not know how to communicate with her customers or say she won’t be able to pull something off. I DO NOT recommend coming here.
The cake itself was absolutely amazing. The design was beautiful, detailed, and better than what I had imagined. You can see the love and craftsmanship in every part of it. And the taste wow. Moist, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. Everyone at our event kept asking where we got it from because it stood out that much. It wasn’t just a dessert; it really brought the whole celebration together.
What impressed me even more was their professionalism. They kept great communication, made sure everything was exactly how we wanted it, and delivered right on time. It’s rare to find places that care this much about quality and customer satisfaction.
I highly recommend Pasteles de María to anyone looking for a delicious cake and exceptional service. We will definitely be returning for future events. Thank you to the entire team you guys are amazing!
I’m writing this as a family member who watched my sister go through an unbelievable amount of stress all because of this bakery. She went in on September 14th to place an order for her daughter’s first birthday cake for November 15th almost three months in advance. She spoke directly with the owner, Maria, showed her two clear photos, and even sent them to her phone the way she requested. Maria said the design would be “easy” and “no problem.” My sister also prepaid for a 4-inch smash cake.
Three days before pickup, my sister went back just to make sure everything was on track thank God she did. Maria suddenly claimed she “had no details,” even though she took the order and the photos herself. She also never reached out or called, despite having my sister’s number. I honestly don’t know what would’ve happened if she hadn’t gone in to follow up.
She then told my sister the Mickey Mouse head decorations would be styrofoam instead of fondant (which they were supposed to be), and said she’d have to pay more if she actually wanted fondant. This was never mentioned before. And again — this was an order she had MONTHS to prepare for.
Today, when my brother-in-law went to pick up the cake, it was nothing like the photos:
• wrong colors
• missing details
• sloppy work
• no Mickey heads on the sides
• and the smash cake wasn’t even made until he got there
She even tried to hand him a heart-shaped cake.
Maria never apologized, never acknowledged her mistakes, and even told my sister to “just pick off the balls and fix it yourself.” The only refund she wanted to give was for the smash cake and the prepaid tip. My sister had to demand the full refund of $224.40.
Now my niece’s first birthday party is happening without a cake, all because the owner refused to communicate, prepare, or admit she wasn’t able to do the design.
As a family member watching all this — the stress, the frustration, and the complete lack of professionalism — I absolutely do NOT recommend this place to anyone.
My cousin ordered her baby’s first birthday cake MONTHS early. Sent the owner the pics. Maria said it was “easy.” Girl where? Three days before pickup. Maria magically “forgot” the entire order and never called once. Then tried to swap fondant Mickey heads for STYROFOAM unless my cousin paid extra. Be so fr. Pickup day? A total joke. At first she forgot the smash cake but then tried to hand over a heart-shaped cake like we wouldn’t notice. When even on the paper SHE WROTE HERSELF it said it was supposed to be a circle. No apology. Nothing. Just “fix it yourself.” Absolutely not. My cousin had to demand her full refund. Don’t waste your time coming here when you’re going to get terrible work for such a high price.
Have you checked this place out yet?? What you waiting for…..still the best Tres Leches cake around
