The staff was so friendly, I tried the minestrone and the tuna sandwich. Amazing! I would confidently go as far as to say Jackson has a Zingerman’s of their own – maybe even better ;)! I’m so happy to have this at home, I will be back for my next fix!
(picture shows my $14 sandwich)
Absurdly expensive food for meager and cheap portions. $14 for a pile of lettuce, a couple tomato slices, mayo, and four pieces of bacon is a deplorable rip off, and an immoral sales practice.
Kibby Kobb has FAR better tasting food at a reasonable price, just drive the extra two minutes and go there.
Long Version:
We have driven past this establishment so many times and finally decided to see what it was like.
I am not surprised I haven’t heard anyone talk about this establishment before, because it’s not worth talking about, and that comes down to the food quality compared to the food pricing.
After surveying the menu, I ordered the Round House, which is actually just a BLT in a pita. My primary motivation for this was that it was one of their *least expensive* sandwiches, coming in at *$14,* almost double the federal minimum wage.
What I received was an exceptionally sad meal (pictured) for that price. The bulk of the sandwich was shredded lettuce, which could not cost more than a couple dimes. Two slices of tomato in each half, and buried at the bottom, hidden away, were a couple strips of bacon and some mayo.
I have no idea where my $14 went, because what I received was a sandwich that costs no more than $2 in food cost and took no more than five minutes to prepare.
Sometimes, how a meal tastes can overcome such criminal pricing, but there is nothing special or remarkable about this. It was just a sad BLT with the same flavor profile as any BLT that has come before it. Meanwhile, Kibby Kobb, just two minutes away, has crafted a thoughtfully priced menu that tastes great.
My wife’s sandwich, coming in at $17, was disappointing and lackluster. All-in-all, for two sandwiches and two meager pasta salads, we paid nearly $50 for lunch. I could walk out of Kibby Kobb spending half of that, and would have had a far more satisfying meal.
I think this establishment is using this “artisanal” or “health conscious” aesthetic to hide behind while they price gouge local Jacksonians. Their sandwiches are rudimentary and bland, and they should know better than to so thoroughly take advantage of their customer base. After my salt-averse wife took a bite of the cucumber salad, she frowned and said “this needs salt.” A shocking proclamation which demonstrates the bland nature of the food served here.
I will not only never return, but will work as an ambassador to ensure others are not so thoroughly taken advantage of. This type of remorseless robbery should be chastised and discouraged at every opportunity.
No one should spend $50 on a lunch for two that contains less than 1000 calories AND have it taste bad.
This establishment should be ashamed and should restructure their pricing immediately.
Aesthetic was cute and staff was kind. That is the only positive thing I can say.
I don’t see myself returning, especially when there are more affordable options nearby offering similar quality. I’ve also spoken with other Jackson locals who share similar concerns about the pricing. Frankly, the pricing feels out of touch with the Jackson consumer base. That said, the staff is very friendly, and the space itself is attractive.
