I stopped by Shorty’s Diner in Yorktown for breakfast, and overall it was a really good experience. The place was definitely bustling, especially with the Sunday crowd, which tells you right away it’s a popular local spot. Despite how busy it was, the food came out pretty quickly, which was impressive given how packed the diner was.
I ordered the meat omelette with bacon and homefries, and it was quite yummy. The homefries were very well seasoned, which I really appreciated, and the omelette itself was flavorful and filling. The portion size was more than adequate, so you definitely won’t leave hungry.
My son ordered the breakfast burrito, and my father had the country fried steak, and neither of them had any complaints. Everyone at the table seemed satisfied with their meals.
Service was okay, but our waitress seemed a bit overwhelmed by the rush and kept forgetting a few small things. It didn’t ruin the experience, but it was noticeable that she was juggling a lot.
Overall, Shorty’s is a busy, classic diner with good food and generous portions. If you go during peak times, expect a lively atmosphere and a bit of hustle, but the food makes it worth the stop.

We went to shortys for the first time today as we heard good things about. The wait was a little crazy in our opinion. I ordered the hangover. The eggs and corned beef hash were nice and hot. The sausage gravy was really cold. My husband ordered the country fried steak meal and his hashbrowns were barely cooked. Typically you’d think they’d be even slightly browned. You can’t substitute anything. Fine we just ordered an extra side of sausage for our daughter. But it’s hard when for the kids breakfast they have 1 option.

I had lunch at Shorty’s on a recent Monday with my elderly mother. It was quite busy, and the staff hustled to serve everyone efficiently.
My mother eats small meals, so she had the half portion of biscuits and gravy. I had the open-face burger, served on Texas Toast, with mushrooms, onions, and brown gravy along with a generous serving of fries. It was delicious and filling.
Our server was friendly and on point to check on us and offer drink refills.

First time here for my wife and I we’ve been wanting to try it but waited a few weeks to get a true image of this place. I ordered a coffee ☕ and my wife got a water and we’re brought 2 waters and no coffee. Management seems lacking in standards with flat boxes on the floor of the kitchen in view of the front door and the wife said the bathroom was lacking cleanliness.
My wife got their cheese fries and thought the best part was the ranch. I had baked spaghetti special and the best part was the side salad and Blue cheese dressing. The baked spaghetti was not piping hot the garlic bread had way way to much garlic for someone who likes garlic . We definitely weren’t impressed on our first visit.
2/17/26 update my wife and I had breakfast and the place is doing a lot better.

Ok, I have never in my life left a bad review ever. Sat bar side, waitress took our order, we end up waiting for quite a bit. Waitress doesn’t even ask for refills or even check up on us throughout our whole stay there, maybe once towards the end; ended up only paying for one cup of coffee.
Received our food, the country fried steak is literally the size of my palm, I don’t think the Williamsburg location does that to their guests, and I got way too many fries on my order; I think it was to make up for what the hot pastrami lacked (quantity) because in my opinion, somewhat little amounts of pastrami and sauerkraut for $13. Felt way too generous tipping 14.6% considering all you have to do aside from taking orders is just saying a couple of words to check up on your guests.

I ordered through doordash and asked for over medium well eggs, the restaurant sent scrambled eggs with cheese instead. Their systems in doordash are messed up or whoever transcribed the order from doordash into their pos did not pay attention. –

We arrived around 1:00 p.m. on a Saturday and were seated right away. The establishment is extremely loud but it wasn’t terribly bothersome. I was surprised that they had gotten so much of the smoke smell out from the previous business but it is still noticeable near the exit. The service was excellent; our waitress and every other staff member we encountered were very friendly. Our drinks were served promptly, and they even have the good ice. Our food arrived in about 20 minutes, which was not bad at all. We ordered the barbecue sandwich with french fries, a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit with hash browns and a side of hollandaise sauce, the Shorty’s special pancakes, and a side of onion rings.
The barbecue sandwich was absolutely unappetizing; it looked and tasted like flavorless mush, with nothing southern or vinegar-based about it. The fries were pretty good, but I was glad to have salt and pepper available. The onion rings were also good, though I prefer beer-battered ones, and these were the more textured kind, which irritate my mouth, so I couldn’t eat many. The ranch was really tasty! The biscuit was delicious; next time, I’ll remember to order my egg over easy to make it perfect. The bacon on it was excellent. Unfortunately, the hollandaise sauce was very disappointing, and I’m glad I didn’t order eggs Benedict as I had planned. The hash browns were fine, but they were very very crispy, almost overcooked. I was starving, so I just smothered them in ketchup and ate them that way. The pancakes were decent, definitely nothing special aside from being huge, but they were fine.
Overall it was a good experience and the biscuit alone will be bringing us back!

Super cute diner with a 50’s flare. Our server (forgot her name) was amazing and attentive. They accommodated 8 of us with no hesitation at all. Our food was quick, hot, and delicious from the tenderloin & burgers to the baked spaghetti special.

If you want some good ole classic American food in a casual atmosphere, then this is your place. Breakfast and lunch only. The staff were all friendly, the service was timely, and the food was tasty. The 1950s retro decor helps create a happy, quirky vibe that adds to the experience. Don’t forget to snap a pic with Elvis while you’re here. As you can see, we were ahead of the lunch crowd. I plan accordingly.

This is exactly what the area has needed since the closing of Pop’s Drive-In! Even with a full dinning room and standing room only in the waiting area, we only had to wait ~10 minutes to be seated. Our server was prompt and our meal delivered rather quickly! Our party had a variety of offerings, all of which were well received! Shorty’s has become a weekly treat for us!
