Under the U.S. Fair Credit Billing Act, you can dispute credit card charges that violate law. If you purchased anything at Moxie, you may be able to DISPUTE THE CHARGE to get your money back!
It’s shameful the owners of Moxie resort to such dishonest and illegal tactics. Other than this issue, my karaoke experience was decent.
To top it all off, the lemon soju was refreshing and just the right amount of fun.
We booked online following the ad and arrived during Happy Hour, ordering food within the Happy Hour time frame. When the bill came, we were stunned bc omg it was over $700 for 3.5 hours and food for only 4 out of 9 our people. When we questioned it, staff refused to honor the Happy Hour pricing, claiming our booking didn’t qualify because it was made online.
The manager tried to justify it by saying the full policy was “technically” available through a tiny hyperlink hidden at the end of the checkout process, which says Happy Hour can’t be combined with packages. That link is buried and not visible anywhere on the promotional page or booking screen… which is a textbook case of misleading and deceptive advertising in violation of California Business & Professions Code §§ 17500 and 17200, which prohibit false or unfair business practices. This law is in place to protect consumers from businesses like THEM.
When I explained this to him and cited the law, he called me “missy” in a condescending tone and refused to honor the advertised pricing. He offered a 10% discount “as a courtesy,” which I was clearly still dissatisfied about because it should have been honored instead. When we went to pay, he tried to charge the full amount without the discount, lying to my friend (who was paying) that “she said she didn’t want the discount.” Why would anyone go through all this trouble just to refuse a discount? It was manipulative and unprofessional.
He even mentioned that someone had previously disputed a charge with their bank and that “the bank was on his side,” implying we shouldn’t bother. That tells me this isn’t an isolated case. it’s a repeated pattern of misleading customers. Also, are you seriously trying to brag about sucessfully commiting fraud? That’s ridiculous.
I told him clearly that if his business wants to avoid confusion in the future, the Happy Hour page needs to publicly disclose that online bookings do not qualify. He thanked me for the “suggestion” and brushed it off as a “misunderstanding.” Yes. It’s a misunderstanding caused by your business’s failure to disclose important information, which is literally the definition of false advertising.
We left feeling cheated, disrespected, and disappointed. What should’ve been a fun birthday celebration ended with a frustrating argument over misleading terms and dishonest conduct.
With all this, the workers here serving food and catering rooms where exceptional, they were great! It’s the disrespectful business owners and horrible policies that ruin the entire experience. I feel sorry for the workers having these people as their boss. Their promotions are deceptive, their policies are hidden, and their management is unprofessional and dismissive when confronted. Do Not Give Them Your Business. They run business with fraudulent intent.
Edit: Your response does not validate the false advertisement and goes directly against CA State Law and has been reported to the County.
Luckily we came during happy hour, which meant that we all got in for $30, to sing all we want during the allotted happy hour time (we stayed for 3 hours)! They even give you a $30 credit to use towards food and drinks!
The gal pals shared a few soju bombs, and we tried some Yakitori, sushi and other tasty bites.
The room was great! Super clean, and looked really nice. The interface was cool, and had the option for YouTube but we didn’t try it. I also liked that you can usually sing along to the music video instead of weird Asian stock photos in the background!
Really cool spot for karaoke and such a great value during happy hour!
Private room with small, medium and large sizes. They also have a public karaoke area.
Awesome customer service. We definitely will go back. Huge free parking area..
