This spot is a hidden gem
In Stockbridge. The customer service was outstanding; staff super friendly. The food was excellent. The Philly was cooked fresh and with fresh ingredients! Oxtails (chefs kiss) tender and seasoned just right. Wait times were appropriate for the food we ordered. Kudos to Jordan who came out to check on us several times! Very attentive! Will definitely be back!

Great food, and a comfortable environment that feels like home! In addition, the service was also friendly from the moment my mom and I stepped in. I gave the delicious food 4 stars, only because I wanted a piece of fried breast meat chicken and they didn’t have it, so I had to order fried chicken wings, which was still delicious. My mom and I ordered the fried chicken wings, yams, collard greens, mac & cheese and fried okra, everything was freshly cooked. The Green front cafe is a cute, little black owned restaurant, tucked away in a little neighborhood, with big charm and beautiful vintage, high ceilings on the inside. It was nice to learn about the history of the place, and to know that it was the first black owned restaurant in Stockbridge, during the 1940s, owned by an innovative woman by the name of Ms. Carrie Mae. After my experience, I will be returning. Thank you for such great service!

Walking into Green Front Cafe feels like stepping into a place full of history, warmth, and good old‑fashioned hospitality. The building itself carries decades of community memories. The moment you walk through the door you sense you are not just eating a meal, but becoming part of a tradition that goes back decades. The vibe is humble and welcoming, not pretentious or flashy.
On my visit I ordered a hearty plate of fried chicken with classic southern sides — mac and cheese, collard greens, maybe some rice and gravy. The chicken had that golden crunch on the outside and tender, juicy meat inside, the kind of soul‑food cooking that reminds you of home. I also tried their oxtails — slow‑cooked, rich, and savory with gravy that soaked into the rice. Each bite felt warm and comforting. The portions were generous. Enough food for a meal that fills you and still leaves you wanting to come back.
Drinks and small touches matter here. I paired the meal with a sweet iced tea — cold and refreshing, perfect for complementing the richness of the food. The service was friendly and genuine. The staff made you feel like you were visiting a friend’s house rather than a commercial restaurant.
What really stood out was how the café feels rooted in its community. This place started in the late 1940s and for decades served not just food, but a sense of connection for generations.
People from all walks of life would gather here and share meals, stories, and community. That spirit carries through today.
When I left I felt full in a grounding way — not just physically, but emotionally. Eating at Green Front Café felt like more than a meal. It felt like being part of something real, something lasting. If you ever want honest southern cooking, generous portions, and a place that feels like home, Green Front Cafe is worth the trip.

This hidden diamond is absolutely AMAZING. The food had me in a food coma by the time we got home. Everything was seasoned to perfection, Sahara was so attentive and the chefs was top notch!!! Not sure if we are returning first or placing a catering order for the entire family. We regret not getting to go food. Can’t wait to return.

I visited Green Front Café today, as I wanted to support a Main Street business in Stockbridge, and I’m still thinking about how amazing everything was! From the moment I walked in, the service was warm, attentive, and made me feel right at home. The food? Absolutely incredible – every bite was perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. You can truly taste the love and care that went into each dish. This place is a gem, and I’ll definitely be coming back. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a place where great food and genuine hospitality come together beautifully!

This is a hidden gem that I’ve wanted to try for awhile. So I decided to shoot my shot and very glad that I did. It is an historic place as the owner explained to me and they do not take any shortcuts when it comes to the food. My fried chicken was freshly made. The collard greens were some of the best I’ve had and the mac & cheese was on point. Service was excellent and the restaurant was very clean. The prices are also very good for the quality that you will receive. I highly recommend dining here!

I’ve known the owners long before this business venture, and their warm kindred spirits use love as the main ingredient to make delicious comforting meals that fill the appetite for a good home-cooked meal.
