I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious and fresh the food was. I got a fajita quesadilla and my wife got the pineapple fajita. The portions are just crazy (large) but the food was exceptional. Service was excellent too. Price was reasonable ($60 for the two of us before tip and we got a rather pricey appetizer).

Tried JR’S for the first time. The steak was actually nicely cooked. The brussel sprouts were like the pre- frozen ones from a grocery store that come in a steam bag and then tossed in with sweet chili sauce. They weren’t good at all. The service was slow, but not terrible. I wasn’t overly impressed by the menu or food. I would possibly give them a second chance.

Brand new restaurant in remodeled spaces immaculately clean. Great steak tacos and steak potatoes. Very good chips and queso. Huge quantity of food for the 10/15 dollar price range. Everything and especially the sweet tea were good. Lots of parking. Give this restaurant a chance as soon as many did not make it here, but this is one for the success list.

Have the new business a shot and I was not disappointed. Especially for coming in on a Saturday, Labor Day weekend. Carne asada for me and chicken with rice for my partner. Food was good, order to serve time was normal for a crowded time and this weekend. Attentive waitress. I left happy and I would come back when out this way again.

Give the new joint in Oakland some love! We’ve been waiting for another sit down restaurant to open since Wyatt Earps closed down and they are doing great here! The steaks are huge for a great prices and taste delicious. The Cesar salad was excellent too and the liquor license is up and running and beer is ice cold. We hope this place is able to stay open they are better than all the other local options in Oakland.

Went there a couple of weeks ago for lunch and ordered my normal grilled chicken Caesar salad. The salad is normally what I expected but this time it hardly had any chicken, only one crouton and what it seemed like a half bottle of dressing.
The time before that the lettuce was very bitter. I didn’t leave a review that time, I just thought it was an off day for them. But this last time I asked the server to speak to a manager or someone in charge and they told us there was none. The server had very poor communication skills. I normally enjoy this place but the last couple of times it just wasn’t good. I hope that isn’t their new normal. Probably won’t be back for a while.

The restaurant is very clean, service was very good, food came out quick, and was delicious. I had the carne asada tacos with rice and beans. I would definitely go back. Also the margarita was on point!

So, my family and I are new to Oakland, so I may not be telling you anything new when I share this. It didn’t take long to recognize that there is no shortage of Mexican Cuisine in the area, but while I’m sure that each has his/her favorite, I just wanted to give a WELL-DESERVED shout out to J.R.’s Mexican Steakhouse. We’ve tried several, but whether the steak or the street tacos, we’ve experienced outstanding food and exemplary customer service every time.
If you aren’t aware, Tuesdays boast street tacos for somewhere between $1.50 and $2.00 (no limits, carryout or dine-in) and they’re PHENOMENAL!

Food was good. The plate size was enough to have leftovers. The mixed drinks were good and our waiter was very nice. We actually showed up 30 min before time to close and they were not rude about it
