A True Hidden Gem in the High Desert!

Don’t be intimidated by the simple, modest look of the building—what’s inside is pure magic. The moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm smile and seated right away. Within seconds, I had fresh chips and an incredible sampler of salsas that honestly blew my mind—each one bursting with authentic, handcrafted flavor.

The atmosphere feels like stepping across the border into a real family kitchen. Everything—from the food to the beautiful, authentic dishware—has that old-school charm and genuine love that only a true family-run restaurant can offer. You can feel the generations at work: Grandma, Grandpa, and the Daughters cooking everything fresh to order, while the new generation runs the front of house with pride and joy.

Every bite tasted like it was made by someone who cares. The flavors were deep, soulful, and unforgettable. This isn’t just a meal—it’s an experience.

Hay Madre Mia is hands down one of the most authentic and heart-filled spots in the High Desert. A true 5-star treasure.

The food was amazing . We had the blessing enjoy 4 different plates , we started with the chilaquiles then the chicken taquitos, 3rd the carnitas plate and we ended of with some French toast as a desert who said it needed to eaten only for breakfast they make a great dessert after a great meal . The staff was very nice and accommodating and always assuring we we’re okay or needed anything else . This was very yummy yummy yummy for my tummy. Oh, I almost forgot the salsa tray was Bomb .

The food is delicious. I had chilaquiles Verdes with Caritas and carne asada. And a egg.
I tried the birria as well, very tasty the meat was soft and juicy with hand made tortillas. Y cafecito de olla. Definitely coming back to try more.

We’ve been here 3 times now, and each time the experience has been better. The staff is amazing, very attentive and polite. Love the stoneware all the food is served in. We love going here and wish them long lasting success! Only negative I’ve seen so far is the parking situation. Seems to share with the market next to it so it can fill up quick.

Went this past Saturday I can honestly say it is by far the best authentic Mexican food I’ve ever eaten, I have eaten in LA inland Empire, even in Mexico, south of Mexico and this is really good food. I’m not a coffee person, but I had to order the cafe de Hoya, very, very delicious, the waitress was very attentive. I ordered quesabirrias and my hubby birria burrito, everything was well Balanced not too greasy at all. It was so good that I had to order a burrito to go for my kid. I highly recommend.

I love the menudo here. Very tasty. One thing I didn’t like was they don’t have tacos Dorado, Chiliquilles were great.

First impressions weren’t great—the outside was surrounded by homeless. Inside, we waited over 10 minutes at a dirty community table that still had napkins and salsa from the previous customers.

I ordered a café de olla, which was disappointing (especially when the waitress brought over a carton of half & half). A good café de olla should never need cream. The green chilaquiles tasted sour, the eggs were undercooked, and the handmade tortillas were thick and undercooked.

My partner’s menudo tasted days old and had a bad smell that left his stomach upset. He also ordered a carnitas taco that never arrived, but we were charged for it.

The clay dishes were pretty and the waitress was kind, but unfortunately the food just didn’t taste good. We picked at our plates but couldn’t really eat. Sadly, not a place I’d return to.

Thank you for your response. I do want to address a few things respectfully but firmly. First, I am of Mexican descent To be told “if you’re educated” about tomatillos and salsa is not only offensive but dismissive of our culture and knowledge of our own cuisine.

Second, your comment about acting “like a normal person” is unprofessional and unnecessary. Customers should never be spoken to in that way, especially when they are simply sharing their experience.

Lastly, reviews are meant to provide feedback so businesses can improve. Instead of receiving an apology or acknowledgment, your response shifted blame onto us and invalidated our experience. Respect goes both ways, and unfortunately, your reply reflects poorly on the hospitality expected from any restaurant.

Stepping into Hay Madre Mia feels like a warm embrace. From the moment you enter, the vibrant atmosphere sets the stage for a truly enjoyable dining experience. The aroma of authentic Mexican spices fills the air, instantly making your mouth water. And the food? Simply outstanding. Each dish bursts with fresh, high-quality ingredients and traditional flavors that transport you straight to Mexico.
Beyond the delicious cuisine, the staff at Hay Madre Mia truly shines. They are professional, attentive without being intrusive, and genuinely courteous, making you feel welcomed and well-cared for throughout your meal. Whether you have questions about the menu or need a recommendation, they are always ready with a smile and helpful guidance.
Hay Madre Mia isn’t just a restaurant; it’s an experience. It’s the perfect spot for a casual weeknight dinner, a celebratory gathering, or any occasion where you crave genuine Mexican flavors and exceptional service. If you’re looking for a taste of Mexico in a welcoming and lively setting, look no further than Hay Madre Mia. You won’t be disappointed!
Also, the selection of salsas, and the dinnerware was very aesthetically pleasing. The price was very affordable and much less than the chain restaurants around here. We had the chorizo and eggs, and the chilaquiles and had leftovers that will not be wasted.

Update: Went for taco Tuesday and was very excited about eating the tacos for 1.99. I placed my order and sat down. A couple minutes later i realized that they charged me full price for tacos. I went to ask the cashier/waitress and she informed me that the asada wasn’t included in the special. When I went to check the front poster and menu for as asterisk * I did not see one. They could of made it up that day. I was a little disappointed because when I ordered my food she didn’t mention anything to me.

Also, my husband noticed the tacos were smaller this time around. He got 5 and he said he was still hungry.

Although, the food was good, good flavor, it was disappointing to bring the food home and see it.

If you’re coming here, it’s best to eat there.

Original post:

Went during the week around 5 pm, and my family very much enjoyed the food.

After having a few mexican places up here, I would say their burrito and tacos are the best so far.

I loved the vibe. It was a cute hole in the wall with delicious food. One thing I missed was a picture of the chips and salsa they gave.

The salsa had a hint of spice, but it was my kind of salsa. Definitely recommend this place.
