HK Cafe is a Hong Kong style Cha Chaan Teng with lots of classic dishes. We were passing by and stopped at this mall and gave this spot a try. The other option was Special Noodle. (Been to several locations) 3.9 on Yelp. The food was better than expected. Service was acceptable but not great.

Safety Pluses – Online menu, Delivery services available, online ordering.

Food Review:
Hainan style Chicken with special rice ($15.95) had lots of boney but nicely done chicken sprinkled with peanuts. Excellent ginger scallion dipping sauce and rice. This is one of the best versions in the SF Area! 10/10

Coconut Chicken Soup ($21.95) is a long boiled soup with lots of chicken and chopped up coconut. Deep flavors. 9/10

Gai Lan with Garlic ($14.50) was stir fried just right. Good quantity and flavors. Slightly greasy. 9/10

Overall – Very Good
Food – Very Good
Decor – Good
Service – Good
Value – Very Good

Would we come back – Yes

It is very typical cantonese food with a Hong Kong flair.

Came in on a Friday afternoon and restaurant was about half full. Appreciate the food was not too salty as we had two elderly’s in my party.

Corn and Chicken Soup: Standard Chicken Corn Soup. It was more corn starchy than I liked
Walnut Prawns: No complaints on the prawns or the candied walnuts but I have never seen this dish served as two separate components and without broccoli.
Sautéed Pea Shoots: Always a favorite of mine but this dish was on the tough side. They definitely did not peel the older pieces.
Seafood Noodles: Appreciate the amount of seafood in this noodle dish however too much corn starch was used in the sauce.
Bell Pepper Squid Stir Fry: Good amount of squid and pepper. Flavor was good. Probably best thing we ordered.

Overall this restaurant was okay, the staff was just the right amount of attentiveness however will likely not revisit.

Came for lunch and was pleased with the house special chow fun. It had meat (chicken &pork) and lots of different seafood. Some of the seafood could have been seasoned more and by itself it tasted very bland. But overall the portion was adequate and it tasted good. The place was busy at lunch amongst all the other restaurants in the mall which was also a good sign.

$11.99 for Hainam chicken rice, it was good. Portion was a good size for the price. Must dine in for this offer. The salt n pepper tofu could use more seasoning. The sweet n sour pork w/rice dish was mainly bones. The service was good and the wait time for fast today .They have an extensive Cantonese menu.

Came here for dinner, first time visiting this place even though I’ve passed by many times since it opened. The place was busy, but there were still a good amount of tables to sit in. I think we only waited a minute, and the waitress sat us down and got us tea all within a couple of minutes. The decoration and atmosphere is casual with a sense that you are in a Hong Kong style restaurant with a large mural of a Hong Kong street with lots of store front signs and neon lights. The decoration is eclectic with an Asian theme with lots of little Asian themed toys and knickknacks.

The food menu is extensive with lots of common foods found in street cafes such as toasts, baked rice, and noodles dishes to the more common dishes like fried rice, Chow mien, porridge, etc. Then there is the more oddball and exotic dishes made with intestines, blood, and frogs.

As I wasn’t into experimenting into the exotic dishes we decided to order BBQ pork fried rice, salt & pepper deep fried fish, salt & pepper deep fried tofu, wonton soup, western style overeasy egg in minced beef sauce over rice, and stir-fry beef rib-eye Japan style.

All the dishes came in within the next 10 to 15 minutes. They looked delicious to my eyes and smelled even better. The bbq pork unfortunately did not meet my satisfaction. Yeah, it looked great and smelled good, but the taste was just bland. There wasn’t even a taste of the bbq pork. The pork itself was dry, like the remnants of old bbq pork cuttings that have been sitting for a while. Fortunately the other dishes were arriving and we had a better experience.

The next dish to come was the wonton soup. The bowl had enough soup and wonton dumplings to serve at least all four of us with a couple extras. There were also fresh baby bok Choi vegetables in the soup, which was nice to balance all the meat. The soup was okay, nothing exciting. The meat filling in the wonton was okay too… I’ve had better.

The next dish up was the salt & pepper tofu cubes. These deep-fried morsels were piping hot with a nice outer crunch and very soft interior. The outside had a really nice seasoning that was savory with a hint of spices. There were also sprinkling of fried jalapeño peppers and garlic. It was delicious.

The next dish was the salt & pepper deep fried fish. Just like the tofu, these fish were battered and deep fried and seasoned with salt, spices, and that mixture of jalapeños pepper and fried garlic. The fish was delicious with a semi crunchy outer shell and a very nice soft, smooth, almost melty interior. I’m not sure what type of fish they used, but it was really nice and soft.

A minute later, the waitress brought out the rest of our order. It was the overeasy egg in minced beef and sauce over rice and the stir-fry beef rib-eye Japan style.

The western style egg in minced beef sauce over rice was truly delicious. It was a mound of rice with a brown gravy sauce with minced beef and shavings of I think it was broccoli stems. In the middle of all that mess was a raw egg cooking in the heat of the dish. The beef and sauce mixed in with the rice was just great. I really can’t explain the taste, it was like putting gravy into your rice but the gravy is not over powering. It balanced the right amount of saltiness, beef flavor, and umami to go right with the plain white rice.

My favorite dish above all the stir-fry beef ribeye Japan style dish. The pieces of beef are stir fried in a sweet, savory sauce with a very distinctive flavor I couldn’t identify. Under the beef are pan fried soft tofu rounds that have the sauce dripping on it. Surrounding the beef and tofu is a bed of fresh broccoli with drippings of sauce on top. This dish was really exceptionally good. The beef was so tender and juicy with the addition of the sauce that it was an explosion of flavor and texture in your mouth.

We truly ate really well and had lots of leftover for the next day. I’ll probably visit again and try their other dishes. Some of the dishes you can’t find in regular Chinese restaurants.

We ordered 2 dishes. After 20 minutes we asked about the status of our items. We waited another 20 minutes and asked again. After another 10 minutes we asked one last time and the server still had no clue where our food was. As we were leaving the server was asking us desperately to wait longer.

While waiting almost one hour for our dishes to arrive, we finished 3 full pots of tea.

On top of that I saw a busser clear someone’s table and her hand making contact with empty lobster/crab shells. She then proceeds to use the same hand to grab our tea pot to refill it.

It will be depending on what you ordered. We had been here 3 times already since they opened. The stir fry dishes are very good. Some of the baked rice is just ok.

This is my regular spot to go. Baby/kids friendly restaurant. The Baked pork rice improved a lot since the last time I had it. I am happy about it! Stir fry is still good! Glad to see the food quality maintained for a year now.

We had the Soy Sauce Chicken, Shrimp and scrambled egg chow fun, and Pork Chop with egg Stir-Fry Ramen this time.

The one dish that stood out was the Shrimp and scrambled egg chow fun. It’s delicious and flavorful, especially their chow fun was cooked to a really good texture. The chicken tasted alright, nothing special though. For the Pork chop ramen, it was mediocre, and lacked flavor overall, but the pork chop flavor itself was tasty.

Our order of Hai Nan Style Chicken with Special Rice and Roast Duck left us in awe. The Han Nai chicken rice was an absolute revelation – its surprising and unparalleled deliciousness, combined with incredibly flavorful rice, made each bite a delight. The roast duck was equally outstanding, leaving us with nothing but satisfaction. There’s truly nothing to complain about here.

I have ordered takeout and ate at the restaurant. The food is consistently good and staff is always polite. Prices are reasonable. Lunch plates cost $13.95 and are huge. Recommend baked pork chop house special and beef brisket rice plate.
