Only thing is to say it was an expensive lunch. Good thing it was while on vacation. Food was great. No complaints about the service. I would have preferred a Cajun, Creole or Zydeco music to the modern stuff. My order consisted of unsweetened ice tea, Boudin egg rolls, pecan pie and the Sampler (etoufee’, gumbo, and red beans & rice). They close at 2:30pm.

Delicious food and super sweet staff!!! You order and pay at the counter and then seat yourself, but the staff is very helpful and friendly, read to assist as needed. Highly recommend the Bayou Crabcake and Poboy Sandwich! They have yummy chicken tenders for kids too. Nice, clean bathrooms with a baby changing table available.

We did their tasting class, sampling all their hot sauces with a variety of foods. It was amazing. The chef was delightful and educational. The boude, beans and rice, gumbo, crayfish etouffe, bread pudding, and cheesecake were all 5 star. So fun and delicious

Food is passable cajun typical plates. Pass on the egg rolls, but the salad is huge and crab cakes are great. So is the etouffee. Free coffee as well.

Came with a tour group. They gave us the sampler with red beans and rice, gumbo, and etouffee. The rice was very overcooked. The gumbo was terrible. The red beans and rice was okay. My etouffee was good but my friend must have gotten a different batch, hers was bad. The pecan pie is some kind of syrup jelly with pecans only on the top.

Great way to spend a couple of hours, split between the self guided Tabasco tour and the garden drive, which showcases the island’s unique ecosystem and is not directly related to Tabasco. It is really neat to tour the birthplace and still operational factory of one of the most famous hot sauces in the world. The on-site restaurant is only open for lunch, so visitors arriving in the mid afternoon have one fewer attraction available.

A good lunch spot. I ate on the porch in mid April, and it was sunny with a cool breeze. Service was friendly and efficient. I started with a cup of chicken and sausage gumbo. It arrived with big chunks of meat; however, the stock or broth wasn’t flavorable. Overall, it was OK. My colleagues ordered the fried cauliflower as a starter, and it had a nice spicy flavor but it wasn’t crispy. My entree was the seafood platter with fried shrimp and fries. A generous serving of shrimp, and I couldn’t finish all the fries. The shrimp was crispy and fried well. Prices were reasonable. I would come back for lunch.

We stopped by for lunch at this Restaurant after finishing tour of Tabasco Museum in Avery Island, Louisiana. They have a good variety of Cajun and Creole foods to choose from. You haven’t order at the counter and the food will be brought to your table. Buffet variety of Tabasco sauces are available to try. Service was friendly and food quite good. We enjoyed it very much.

Restaurant 1868 — Sampler Plate
Perfect lunch stop after the Tabasco factory tour. The sampler plate — gumbo, red beans & rice, and crawfish étouffée — delivers big, authentic Cajun flavors. Each dish stands out, and the variety of Tabasco sauces pairs perfectly without overpowering. Casual spot, great food, and a must-try experience on Avery Island.

Great place for a quick meal while visiting the Tabasco site on Avery Island. I had the crawfish Po’boy and it was amazing. Of course, there is the full spread of Tabasco branded sauces available to add to your dish. Order at the counter and grab a seat inside or outside. Quick service as the food was delivered quickly and there were plenty of staff keeping the area clean. Would recommend!
