We enjoyed a Friday evening Prix fixe meal. Service is exemplary, seating comfortable and relaxing, and the meal was delicious! Michelin rating well deserved. Pricing for all the above is very reasonable. Flavours are unique and each course was freshly served, along with replacement dinnerware. Accompanying beverage pairings were perfect.
I have been looking forward to trying this establishment for some time and it was well worth the wait!
Special note – all our meal items were Gluten Free, very accommodating when we pointed out one of us had a gluten allergy.
We will definitely return!

What a pleasant surprise. Barrel Heart is a gem. The food is fantastic with a fusion twist. My favourite are the Brussels sprouts with shrimp paste and bonito andvthe banana pudding—it’s a must-try. I also have a few beers and a cider, all house-brewed.
Service is great ! Definitely worth the 15-minute walk from home

My wife and I tried the Friday tasting and it was absolutely delicious. The dishes were unique and tasty and the accompanying beers were well paired. Absolutely worth a visit for the exceptional food or distinct beers.

What a treat! Unique beers, wines and delicious food. They have a lovely patio environment. We enjoyed the spicy butter Cornish hen dish with crispy skin, smoked pickerel and potato salad was something special. Banana pudding desert had the perfect textured and salty sweet combo. Shout out to chef Mitch and Lana. We are lucky to have such creative and quality food in the Hamilton area. Can’t wait to come back to try more as their menu rotates. Congrats on the Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand – well deserved.

We ordered several dishes as a group of six. Rarely do I complain about dishes, but the pickerel was so salty (I have a VERY salt forward palette) that we could not finish it and informed the waiter. You could not taste the wasabi or smoke, it was just straight up salt.
Beer is 9 dollars for 250mL, but the choices and flavors are quite nice. The Asian flavors don’t particularly go well together with the food choices in our opinion. A beautiful piece of hen, well cooked, with overpowering squash curry didn’t make a ton of sense to me. I felt similarly with the Uni pasta. Great potatoes. Celery is fantastic. Beers are good but also extraordinarily expensive. Overall, for the price I feel there are several better options in Hamilton, particularly now that they are Michelin recommended and raised their prices.

Last Friday I had the privilege to visit Barrel Heart for the first time. It was an incredible experience, that starts with meeting Elaine. A friend and I shared the Friday Tasting Menu with beer pairing ($70 + $25 plus tax, total for two people, an amazing price!).
Let’s start with the beer, normally I am not a fan of Saison’s, however, Mark is such an amazing brewer, that it opened up my mind what a balanced Saison can taste like. Paired with Chef Mitch’s dishes, the meal and pairing is on another level. I loved every dish and am very excited to come back and try the spring/summer menu. The food Chef Mitch makes is incredible, great flavour combinations and unlimited creativity.
Dundas is very lucky to have this gem. Run, don’t walk to go and try it out for yourself.

Literally can’t say enough good things about this brewery. The carrot harissa dip was genuinely one of the best things I’ve ever eaten in my life, the beers were all phenomenal, and the brewer literally ran across town to hand-label a bottle from the next day’s release because we were only in town for one day.
If you’re planning a trip in the area, this is a must-visit stop!

Barrel Heart is truly a gem in Dundas. From the food, which features unique, thoughtful flavour combinations that still deliver comforting, familiar vibes, to the welcoming atmosphere, everything feels just right. The owners and staff genuinely treat you like pals, which makes every visit feel special and relaxed.
It’s a place we’ll continue to return to for date nights, group dinners, and special occasions. We most recently enjoying an unforgettable New Year’s Eve 5-course prix fixe dining experience with a group of friends. Keep it up, BH – we love you!

Why did we wait so long to try this place?! When I heard there was a Michelin Star awarded to a new restaurant in Dundas I was interested in trying it assuming it was expensive and only for very special occasions. Not so! The prices are extremely reasonable and the atmosphere is relaxed. We enjoyed the Friday night tasting menu (a full dinner for 2) and beer pairings. The food was amazing. Full of flavour and unique. The beer pairings were perfect and a great way to sample the Brewmasters latest delicious creations. Barrel Heart also offers great local wines and ciders. I can’t wait to go back.

Without a doubt, a must-try! I’ve been waiting so long to find a brewery that offers great food, and this is it! The beers are light and easy to drink, and they pair really well with the food. Every dish we tried was simply amazing—from the sprouts, to the butter chicken (the best I’ve ever had), to the incredibly tender pork chops, to the banana pudding.
The owner, Mark, is so nice and welcoming; he truly made our night memorable.
I can’t wait to be in the area again to visit them!
