Ali is not only super kind but he makes the freshest Mediterranean food I’ve ever had. He was friendly and patient with me when I ordered and didn’t mind my special request. Super friendly and again the lamb gyro was the best I’ve ever had! So happy he is just down the street from me! This will be “my spot” to take anyone who’s visiting me!
Oh also the fries are out of this world. Thick crinkle cut and REAL! MADE FRESH! 5 STARS FOR EVERYTHING!

We come here once in a while cause we live close by and have had such a wonderful experience every time. The guy who makes the food is super nice and always puts so much care into making the food perfect. Meat always cooked perfectly, hummus is silly smooth, rice is so flavorful, everything is fresh and delicious and decently priced. Hope it stays in the area a long time!

Was here a few weeks ago and had the BEST meal. I chatted a little with the owner, I believe his name is Ali. The owner Ali does everything and runs the entire business.
As he was cooking, I was looking at his kitchen/cooking setup. The place is kept extremely organized and clean. He had very clean preparation, used gloves, things were kept in the refrigerator until need, all the produce was fresh. The tomatoes were ripe and the lettuce was green and crisp.
A lot of middle eastern places I go to have the rice as an afterthought where the rice may be dry or overcooked, but Awafi’s rice was soft and fluffy and perfect. The Tzatziki was creamy and garlicky and full of flavor.
We ordered a lamb plate and a chicken plate. The lamb was spiced well and delicious, but the real standout was the chicken. Some crispy and soft bits and it went so well with the rice and veggies.
Ali gave us a baklava when he heard I was from Hawaii and went out of my way to try them out. The baklava was so good! Soft delicate crispy layers and an intense and sweet center. It all was held together with the gooey sticky sweet topping.
You can tell the effort that is put into this business with how good the ingredients and food is. I wish Awafi’s was close to where I lived, I’d be going there at least once a week haha.

Houston native, visiting Portland for the second time. Last time we came, we passed by Awafi and didn’t get to try it! This time, we got to chat with Ali, who was very kind and shared that he runs the cart alone, and we finally got to try the kofta and chicken saj. Both were delicious and reflected Iraqi cuisine beautifully. We will be back!

Great service! Owner was amazing to talk to! You can tell when someone truly cares about there business when they show respect for the customers like I was shown. He held up a great conversation and was very respectful and easy going. I would definitely recommend this gyro stop to anyone in the area who loves a great meal along with great service.

Awafi is a great food truck. The falafel is superb and always fresh. I appreciate all the different options. I have enjoyed everything I’ve ordered from here. Good prices, vegetarian options and friendly service. There is a reason they have such a high rating on Google Maps. I can’t recommend Awafi enough.
