To start, the interior design is excellent – soft leather seating in the dining room, warm lighting, large windows at the front, and a mix of brown wood, black metal, and green accents throughout the space.
After being seated quickly, we spent some time looking over the food and beverage menus. My husband ordered a seasonal mocktail, which was lovely. I was torn between a glass of Clean Slate Riesling and a mocktail. Since there was an extensive wine menu, I asked our waitress for information on the notes/flavor profile of the riesling (“Is it citrus-forward? What information could you give me?”). Our wait staff team (an experienced waitress with a newer waitress shadowing) was unsure and explained that they would go check. I was more than fine with them double-checking, as I trusted the serving team to steer me correctly. I was eventually informed that the riesling was not really citrus forward and was a sweet white wine. With that information, I decided to order a mocktail (Scarlet Fiz) and enjoyed that beverage. After ordering my mocktail, I did a quick Google search of the riesling out of curiosity. In less than 30 second of reading the website for Clean Slate Riesling, I found out the wine has “refreshing citrus and peach flavors balanced by a touch of honey and vibrant acidity.” The front page of the website highlights the citrus flavor on 3 separate occasions. Cue the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” end credits music.
We ordered the Truffle Parm Fries as a starter, which were warm and crispy. For our main courses, my husband order the Bird on Fire with fries. He liked this meal. I ordered the Grown Up Grilled Cheese with no bacon jam (to make the meal vegetarian) and tomato soup. The grilled cheese appeared to have a brown jam on it with square brown chunks, and I was concerned that I was given bacon jam. My husband tasted the jam and agreed that it tasted like bacon. When we asked our serving team, the experienced waitress let me know (somewhat snappily) that it was actually onion jam. The Google menu, which says “Updated 4 days ago” does not indicate an onion jam, but rather balsamic onions. If she misspoke, I completely understand. However, considering the riesling conversation, I found it difficult to complete my meal. To complete our meal, we ordered oat milk lattes to-go and left after paying.
The server-in-training did an excellent job throughout her time with us – She spent time clearing the table, greeting us/smiling as she passed by, and checking-in cheerfully. When I asked about the wine, she offered to check her training notes about the menu, which I appreciated. I hope she is able to spend time with a variety of servers in her training, as I am unsure the person she shadowed with this evening is the best person to mentor future servers.
Lastly, to note, my husband was in charge of the bill and tipped what he felt was appropriate based on the service we received from the experienced server. If anyone from the Refined Roots management team reads this: We would be more than happy to provide a separate tip for the server-in-training. She did a fantastic job and truly deserves a larger tip for her hard work and commitment to excellent service.
On the positive side, the aesthetic of the restaurant is very cute, and the chairs were comfy. The fries were a highlight—crispy and flavorful, especially with the peppery ketchup, which was a nice touch.
Service was just okay. The staff wasn’t rude but didn’t go out of their way to be friendly or make the experience personal.
Overall, I probably won’t return. There are other restaurants in Tarpon Springs that feel more worth our time and money.
I’ve been here twice now and both times I’ve had terrible service. The last time I went (Sept) I actually got up left after waiting over 15 minutes for a server to stop by to take my order. My first time there I had a similar experience. I did enjoy the food the first time I was there but I do think the portions are very small (chicken sandwich) for what they are charging.
This dessert was amazing.
I also really resent One Restaurant doesn’t allow you to sit where you’ve requested. I got stuck in a spot I didn’t want to be in in a chair I didn’t want to sit in because it was incredibly uncomfortable.
The reason for the 4 stars is the service. We weren’t in a rush and were hoping for a relaxed dinner, but everything took an excessive amount of time—even by leisurely dining standards. Apps took over 20 minutes to come out, and drinks consistently took at least 10 minutes to reach the table. Since our table faced the bar, it was confusing to see such delays, especially early in the evening when only two tables were seated. Our server wasn’t very attentive, and when there was an issue with the accuracy of an order, she didn’t seem interested in addressing it.
That said, the food and drinks were genuinely very good, and the vibe is great. I’ll likely give it another try—hopefully the service was just an off night for our waitress.
We shared a Manhattan cocktail which was good.
What I didn’t like is that I had a hard time finding non-dairy items. They put butter, cheese and dairy in many items. But I guess that goes for meant restaurants these days.
The atmosphere was just ok. You had to walk through the back of the restaurant and hallways to get to their outdoor patio. The inside seemed a bit sterile, not cozy. The patio was fine.
The service was good.
I would not seek out this restaurant again (although my husband might, haha).
