Tanaka Ramen. Aiea, Hawaii – Reddit

Out of all the spots on Oahu this is one of my favorites. Garlic volcano ramen is what it’s called. (added bok choy)

I ordered Tori Ramen with no onions. I was served a bowl of ramen with a liberal amount of fried onions, a refrigerator cold half egg and two small slices of refrigerator cold chicken. The fried onions overwhelmed the flavor of the chicken broth.Very, very disappointing for a ramen restaurant to serve this.

The restaurant is located in Pearlridge Shopping Center, downtown, on the second floor. The food service was quick. The broth for the ramen was tasty. The gyoza and shrimp was delicious.

My first time here. My brother introduced me to this place. I ordered the Tanaka Garlic. I was disappointed, the garlic flavor was light. The broth was not rich enough. The noodles were firm and bouncy.

We also ordered the Chicken Karaage. Seasoned well, crispy outside, and moist and juicy inside.

Solid spot for a quick and tasty meal. The ramen was rich and flavorful, and everything came out fast and hot. Great option if you’re looking for something easy, casual, and satisfying without a long wait. Would definitely come back!

Aloha people; so I must say that for a Ramen shop located in the mall this place is really good, the Ramen had group dashi flavor and the truffle fries were damn good ( thin sliced and crunchy). The staff was ok, I felt like it was family run and everyone was in a hurry. But nothing horrible for sure… it was definitely busy on a Friday night as we had to wait 30 minutes for a table. And there are plenty of shops to keep you busy while you wait. Go check it out, you will love it.

Ramen was pretty good! We got some kind of shoyu, can’t remember which. Eggs are not quite soft-boiled. They’re more on the hard boiled side and not runny.

The truffle fries were delicious and you can see from the picture of my 4-year old.

Soft shell steam bun was really good, but seems kind of pricey for what you get. More of a luxury item I think.

I enjoyed the takoyaki, but others not so much. I’d personally like a bigger octopus and less batter.

Service was great and we walked in 15 mins before they closed on a Sunday (545) felt super bad. But they assured us it was fine and that it was last call though no rush for eating etc. Very attentive with drinks and needs. Food was good. Favorites were the rock shrimp and tofu. If we’re in the area and want ramen, I would def be back.

美味しい!!! Flavor was perfect and prepared precise. I opted for the level 3 spice, which as a spicy food enthusiast, it was the perfect level…has that kick, but not making your nose run. I also got a kimchi add-on. Customer service was above par…quickly greeted, seated, and my order was taken as soon as the server noticed I was done looking at the menu. The shop opens at 11, I arrived around 11:20, and it was already almost packed. Highly recommend coming early. I’ve lived in Japan and the authenticity of Tanaka Raman is where it’s at. Come hungry…leave satisfied. Will definitely be returning.

Let’s be honest, if I went to the mall and I wanted more bang for my buck, great tasting food that’s worth the wait, and leave the place satisfied I would go to Gomatei versus Tanaka. You would go to Gomatei instead of Tanaka. The ramen was ok, but the meat serving size was small and thin. Takoyaki was ok. The fried oysters was ok. The karaage was dry. The only plus is the staff, other than that, yeah not coming back.
