The food was incredible — especially the Gambo and fried crab claws — but Mike’s service is what really stood out. He brought such a positive energy to the table and made our visit feel special. You can tell he really cares about the customers and takes pride in what he does.
If you visit Acme, definitely ask for Mike. Great food and outstanding service made this one of the highlights of our trip to New Orleans. Highly recommend!
Love Nettie & Kamika from Philly!
Now there probably is a wait to get in or a long line but u promise it’s worth it. Once inside they’re pretty quick and service and food again is very much worth it!! Chargrilled oysters are a MUST and to die for!!! Drinks top tier!! Our waiter Mike was exceptional, knowledgeable and funny he was the icing on the cake of this experience!! Will definitely be back!! Thank you again Mike!
The best part is the technique: you absolutely must use the French bread provided to soak up all that decadent, buttery oil that drips out and eat it. You have the option to add crab meat as an extra, which I did, but honestly, the oyster itself is so good you’ll get the full flavor experience even without it.
They offer bar-side seating, tables, and a shucker prep side where you can watch them work. A helpful tip is that even though the oysters don’t need any additional sauces, try them with the extra options provided; you might find a variation you like even more than the classic. This is a simple, unforgettable treat.
Overall, everything tasted really good. The gumbo had a very distinctive flavor, a bit salty with a strong peppery note, but still enjoyable. The Boom Boom Crab tasted similar to a popcorn-shrimp style dish, but not overly sweet.
Both kinds of oysters were excellent and very fresh, though the only downside was that they didn’t seem to be rinsed thoroughly, you could still feel a tiny bit of grit.
All in all, Acme is a solid spot. If the wait time is under an hour, I think it’s definitely worth trying
The food was delicious, offering a wide variety of Cajun dishes. Each dish was impressive, but the charbroiled oysters stood out as a must-try. The étouffe and gumbo were equally delectable.
The ambiance was cool and inviting, with jazz music playing in the background and a vibrant New Orleans vibe. It was a perfect setting for a memorable dining experience.
What stood out:
The char-grilled oysters were outstanding — rich garlic-butter flavour with a hint of Parmesan, and perfectly cooked.
The raw oysters on the half-shell were fresh, briny and served with knowledgeable shuckers visible behind the bar (a fun part of the experience).
Beyond oysters, the seafood specialities (jambalaya, étouffée, po-boys) were generous and well-prepared — good for sharing.
Service was friendly and fast, despite a busy dining room. We had a queue to get in (worth it!) but once seated things moved smoothly.
Atmosphere: casual, lively, full of character — exactly what I hoped for in New Orleans.
Things to note:
It’s busy — expect a wait during peak hours.
While the food is excellent, some items can be a bit pricey (especially oysters at market price) so keep an eye on the menu.
If you’re not an oyster fan, no worries — there are plenty of other solid options.
Overall: Highly recommended if you’re looking for a fun, full-flavour New Orleans seafood experience. I’ll definitely go back on my next visit.
Etouffee with Crawfish tails was an excellent appetizer as I watched my oysters being shucked. The size of these things caught me off guard. Apparently it’s the season for Oysters down here.
The Oysters were the best I ever had, I used to hate ’em, then I got good ones in Maine, and loved ’em, but I think these took the cake.
Staff was really friendly (but busy)
