I recently visited Dunhuang Chinese Restaurant in Syosset, and overall, it was a fantastic dining experience. The ambiance was inviting and modern, and the service was attentive.

We tried a variety of dishes, and the Mala Noodles were absolutely amazing—packed with bold, spicy flavors that really hit the spot! The Lamb Skewers were perfectly grilled with just the right amount of seasoning. The Signature Beef Noodles were a standout as well, with tender beef and deliciously flavorful broth. The Sweet and Sour Ribs had a great balance of tangy and sweet, and the Crab Soup Dumplings were full of flavor with a rich, savory broth inside.

However, the Pork and Lamb Bun didn’t quite live up to the expectations—it was a bit underwhelming in taste compared to the other dishes. Still, the overall meal was a great experience, and we definitely plan to return.

Highly recommend for anyone looking for authentic Chinese flavors in Syosset!

My kids love non-spicy Lanzhou noodles, so we ordered the clear broth and pickled cabbage beef noodles — they were delicious! The lamb skewers could be improved a bit, maybe grilled to be more crispy. Overall, it was great and we’ll definitely come back again.

This is my local go-to Chinese restaurant, highly recommended! Absolutely the most authentic northeast Chinese noodle dishes I’ve ever had in NYC and Long Island with good price. They also have great Si Chuan dishes. Made right in the restaurant fresh, tasty soup and many options of noodles. My favorite is the sour spicy beef rice noodle, and lamb burger! Always craving for them!
They also have friendly staff and chef, nice vibes and feel like a good hometown neighbor!

DunHuang a city in Northwest China once a key stop on the ancient silk road. Dun Huang serves noodle dishes that are famous in Northwest China. This Dun Huang is run by a wonderful family. The food is always consistently delicious. Try the N1 Lanzhou special noodle with cilantro and chili oil for a little kick. N2 is a braised beef noodle dish with baby bakchoy. Two of our families favorites. We also enjoy the Chinese hamburgers or rou mo jia. Great starter for the kids. The Lamb skewers are tasty with the chili seasoning as well. Overall a nice find in Syosset.

We got the signature with sliced beef and the braided beef noodle soup, Xiao long bak, and spicy wontons and the lamb pocket (forgot the actual name).

The spicy wontons were ok, not the best, but not bad either. Mainly, I didn’t like the watery soupy base as opposed to a strong, spicy thicker base.

The Xiao long bao was bad. Don’t get of you’re a connoisseur.
Mainly, the wrap was very thick which ruins it for me.
Also they don’t automatically give you ginger/vinegar sauce.

The beef noodle soup was overall ok.
I got thick noodles with he braised beef.
The beef was mediocre, not tender with melting tendon.
My broth was good, and the thick noodles were excellent.
Oh and the bok Choi was cold and hard, didn’t appear to be cooked with he soup at all.

My wife’s signature on the other hand… She didn’t like much.
She reported the noodles were cold, and the broth was not as flavorful as mine.

We didn’t like the lamb pocket (whatever it’s called).
Honestly, it tastes more like Mexican seasoning and felt like it was eating a taco. No that that’s necessarily a bad thing, but not what we were expecting or hoped for there. Lol

Overall, the place was on, but not the same as say flushing.

DunHuang is a restaurant for Chinese noodles. We came on a holiday Monday for lunch. Seating is a bit cramped because the dining area of the restaurant is small, they can fit maybe 5 parties total. I think this place can improve the decor, there wasn’t a whole lot to look at inside.

I ordered the zha jiang noodles, which is chewy noodles in a meaty brown sauce. No complaints, it was good! I thought the portion was appropriate and the price was also fine.

It was a little unusual that water was not provided to each table. I wasn’t parched necessarily, but it would have been nice if we had some glasses of water.

Trash service. The guy literally said they don’t make the orders in order. They just give prioritize the walk in first the online order. And it’s already been 35 mins but still not started working on my order. Not a systematic rule. And I feel like it serving their Asian community first.

Absolutely delicious! My son who lived in China considers their menu to be a greatest hits list of the foods he ate while there. The zha jiang noodles (like ramen with ground pork) was my personal favorite and not spicy. The dishes we ordered that were labeled spicy were moderate in heat. The coconut drink pairs perfectly with the food. We had both the cumin lamb and the pork “Chinese burgers.” While both were good, I preferred the pork. My only criticism was that the potatoes were al dente for my liking, but otherwise tasty. My son was thrilled with the pan fried noodles. There are a few tables to dine at and they were doing a brisk takeout business. We will absolutely be dining here again. It was worth the long wait for it to open.

We ordered the Lanzhou beef noodles, wanton with chili sauce and soup dumpings. Everything was excellent but I especially liked the wanton and beef noodles.
