The food was OK. Definitely hit and miss. The hush puppies are some of the best I’ve ever tasted. But the fried green tomatoes are really really thick and when you bite into them, it’s like biting into a really hard, uncooked unpleasant thing. The coleslaw tasted weird. The oysters were delicious, don’t bother with the crawdaddy hash because it’s all potatoes with a few oversalted tiny almost bitter tasting crawfish thrown in and as the photo here shows, the onions and peppers weren’t even cooked. Not even a hint of hitting a pan.Neither were the mushrooms, but I ended up eating those. The poached egg was perfect. My husband loved his burger and he’s very picky about his burgers, so that’s something. My son liked but not loved the black beans and rice and also the red mule grits were quite good.
Our server apologized and said it was shift change, but shift change shouldn’t equate to careless or bad cooking. Ever.
Won’t be back.
Entrees- the shrimp and scallop scampi was really rich but tasted good. Crabcakes were extremely rich but yummy sauce. The hush puppies were some of the best ive had but I wish they came w something to dip them in. If this place was actually on the coast it would be subpar bc the foods like almost really good but a hair away from it.
The biggest problem is the self proclaimed manager behind the bar. Tall skinny brunette guy. He was loudly telling stories about problem customers while cussing and being completely obnoxious. He then yelled into the kitchen for a coworker like ten times then poured shots for about five or six other staff and they all took shots right there at the bar with customers still in the restaurant well before closing time, about 7. He proceeded to keep complaining about problem customers at top volume holding court for the college coworkers sitting at the bar. It was a terrible look on him they look 18 and he looks at least 25. I would think the owner would want to know the “manager” is being so unprofessional and i get its kind of a laid back atmosphere but it was uncomfortable to be around. Will never be back
Parking is a bit challenging, but the cozy environment, food, and welcoming staff make up for it.
Appetizer: fried green tomatoes and grouper nuggets. I highly recommend both. We always get the tomatoes but this was the first time having the nuggets. I am not a fan of tartar sauce and I loved the house made tartar sauce. I even asked for more. Appetizers were YUM. 5/5 ⭐️
Main: Buffalo shrimp basket (2), salmon BLT (2) and a shrimp basket. We all had fries/slaw. None of us were impressed by the slaw. There was no flavor and it was just blah. However, there were no other complaints. It was delicious. The BLT’s were made with fresh bacon and salmon. The shrimp was also fresh and the buffalo was well seasoned. They have a house made chipotle ranch dressing that is great for dipping fries. Overall YUM 4/5 ⭐️
Dessert: we al shared a slice of bourbon pecan pie and key lime pie. Although we all like the pecan pie we chose key lime as our favorite. It was not overwhelming bitter and had a great subtle lime flavor.
Overall rating 4/5
