While in Arlington for a conference, my colleague and I were walking to dinner. We had been in the area previously, but never really thought about going in this restaurant. BUT! This looked like a great place. It did not disappoint. We were seated immediately and the wait-staff was very prompt. I ordered the spring rolls and hibachi plate. My colleague ordered sushi and Ramen. The food was amazing!
I do have to note – they ‘forgot’ to bring his Ramen, but when we mentioned it, they made fresh and gave us free mochi! ❤️
As a bonus – all the staff had on Studio Ghibli t-shirts. Was fun to see all the different ones they had.

Items Reviewed:
STAMP!! Their Mocktails ($5 Their Little Samurai with pineapple juice, grenadine, & Sprite, and $5 Their Summer Rose with Lychee, soda water, & rose syrup). That Samurai jont STAMP!! Flavorful!! The Rose jont just tasted like unsweet soda water…DECENT.

STAMP!! Their Spring Rolls ($6 with cabbage, carrots, & lettuce). Classic, crispy, & outright tasty!!

LIKE THAT! Their Chicken Karaka ($9 fried chicken pieces with a sweet, & sour sauce). Crunchy, well seasoned, with a sweet dip!!

STAMP!! Their Tempura Platter ($13 with tempura shrimp, onions, & broccoli). Airy crispy, with fresh shrimp, & flavorful veggies!!

DELICIOUS. Their Shrimp Tempura Ramen ($16 with a soft boiled egg, fish cakes, seaweed, & bamboo in a miso broth). Good, I just needed more flavor with this ramen.

LIKE THAT! Their Chicken Hibachi ($2/ with a chicken teriyaki, fried rice, veggies, & a yum yum sauce). Nicely sauced chicken that blended well with the veggies, & rice!!

STAMP!! Their Sushi ($7 Their California Roll with avocado, crab meat, & cucumber, and $17 Their Deluxe Dragon Roll with shrimp tempura, avocado, cucumber, Tobiko, & eel sauce). Definitely STAMP their tasty, fulfilling Dragon Roll, the California Roll was DELICIOUS, it just lacked flavor.

We had a lovely dining experience at this restaurant. We had traveled to Washington DC from Toronto, and after a long day of walking and sight seeing, we were looking forward to some nice food. The Tonkotsu ramen was absolutely yummy, as was the California roll sushi. My husband ordered the tofu teriyaki rice and loved it. The staff was super friendly too.

This place is a fantastic spot for cocktails and sushi! Already been there twice and will definitely go back again when I’m in the area. The customer service is excellent, and the ambience creates the perfect setting for a relaxed and enjoyable night out. Their pricing is fairly reasonable, making it a worthwhile choice for quality food and drinks. Whether you’re in the mood for a well-crafted cocktail or fresh sushi, this place delivers.

Great location and large and clean interior with plenty of seating but no onsite parking. The menu was very large and the rolls all seemed delicious. The three rolls i tried were awesome. Fresh tasting fish with great sauces and accoutrements. Rolls were a nice size and worth the price. The drinks were also great; nice and strong. Large outdoor patio for the warmer months. Service and time for food to table was also Great. For sure will visit again ❤️❤️

We were in Arlington for the night and thought we would give Kanji a try. We made a reservation for 5. Due to traffic we had to call to move by 30 minutes and found out we didn’t have one. We were able to make the later one though. When we got there, they put us in a private room. It seemed good until we figured out that we were forgotten at times. I had to get the server several times. The food was so so. Calamari was chewy and the Tempura was a little soggy. The food was also a little cold when it came. The Hibachi portion size was good. However, the protein was a little overcooked (dried out) and had little flavor. I think we will pass on Kanji the next time we are in town. We thought it would be good based on the 4.4 rating.

I was invited here by some dear friends for lunch. This place would have gone unnoticed by me for no other reason than the area. I had not been out there for years; they had really built it up. I’m happy for them and the people in the area.
Nevertheless, I digress, which you know I can. I was pleasantly surprised with the restaurant’s ambiance; it was quaint, but the attention to detail was evident. I was welcomed at the front and seated while I waited for the rest of my party, which gave way to a great conversation with my waiter about Japan since I visited there a few months ago.
The service was exemplary, and I left there in a Japanese food coma—is this even possible, ha-ha? Everything my friends ordered for the table was so good that we had to take some home because it was a lot. Who does that with sushi? However, an hour or so after getting home, I demolished the rest.
Below are some of the highlights of what we partook in:
Spring Rolls
Vegetable Tempura
Sushi Lunch
Miso Soup
Edamame
Spider Roll
Rock n Roll
Please do yourself a favor and make the trip. Or if you’re in the neighborhood, “run, don’t walk,” I’m confident that you will be happy you did.

Decent Fare for the Price, But Room for Improvement

We recently visited this new Japanese restaurant in Arlington, hoping to find a great spot for some authentic Japanese cuisine. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t fully meet our expectations, though there were some positives worth noting.

The quality of the food was average, nothing memorable; it wasn’t the authentic Japanese taste one might hope for, but it was reasonably good considering the price. We ordered a variety of dishes, including sushi and yakitori, which the latter we had to ask for sauce. While the taste was generally satisfactory, the presentation and authenticity left a bit to be desired.

Service was another area that could use some attention. When our first dishes arrived, we had not yet received proper plates to eat from, which seemed a bit uncoordinated for a dining establishment aiming to make a good first impression. This could be growing pains for a new restaurant, but it’s an area that definitely needs improvement.

The ambiance of the restaurant was quite pleasant, and the food pricing is fair, but potential patrons should temper their expectations—don’t expect a top-tier Japanese dining experience. Given the competitive culinary environment of Washington D.C., where numerous Asian eateries vie for attention, this restaurant will need to step up both in terms of food authenticity and service quality to carve out its niche.

In conclusion, if you’re in the area and looking for a casual place to grab some Japanese dishes without spending a lot, this might be a decent option. However, for those seeking a genuinely authentic Japanese culinary experience, or the distinctive flair of Genki Izakaya, you might want to keep looking.

Left very unhappy! Miso soup – was served cold and not even miso taste. The chef or manager not checking what they are serving???
Hibachi- $25, was not worth at all, steak and rice has no taste too.Rice was unbelievably dry and weird. Never had this worst rice. I felt like they are using the cheapeast materials or something.

This place seems to have turned around for the better. We ordered the big sushi/sashimi boat for 2. Very fresh and tasted great. Portions were reasonable, we finished but were very stuffed. About a year ago and found the food just okay.
