I ordered a cake for my partner’s birthday, this was a surprise trip so I wanted the cake to be a nice surprise on the morning of their birthday. When I ordered online the option was to get it delivered at 10am so I chose that and paid for my order.
When landing in Gibraltar, I gave the bakery a quick call to confirm the exact apartment number (the location was not changed at all, we were a 4 min walk from the bakery, but I did not want to be walking to collect a cake and wanted it to be a surprise).
I spoke to the most unhelpful and rude lady who reported the cake would be delivered between 11am-2pm and there was no deviation from this, even though I had an email from the bakery confirming 10am delivery. I advised her we are on a holiday and cannot wait around for the cake. I offered to collect it or pay extra to have it delivered at 10am, but she advised this would not be a possibility. I ended up telling my partner all the drama and having to settle for a different cake. Which really soured our experience and ruined the surprise. It was also annoying as I had paid almost £60 for a cake and the delivery.
Then came the hassle of the refund, the lady first advised she would not be able to offer me a refund and instead offered a credit note (which was pointless as she was aware I don’t live in Gibraltar). When I asked her why and if I could speak to a manager, she reported there was no one available to talk to or they did not have a phone at their location. She said she will speak to the manager herself and call me back, which she never did.
After much back and forth, I had to physically go to both bakeries and ended up speaking to another employee in person. They said that they would call me to put the refund through. I waited almost 2 days and ended up having to yet again go to one of the bakeries in person to have the refund put through manually.
Biggest headache of my life and biggest waste of time on a holiday!

Visited the new Midtown Cafe – the coffee was awful, tasteless very disappointed. Why is it so difficult to make a decent coffee. Also had the hot cross buns – absolutely no fruit in them. A shame as the venue has a lot of potential
