It was a busy night and looked like they were understaffed, but for a first timer it was the best timer! The selections were all amazing. The fried rice with the egg on top was delectable; even the ginger ale was fresh and delicious. Looking forward to return for some more! The waitress was extremely friendly and welcoming so expect good vibes, akin to the Venice Beach spirit 🙂

I was really drawn in by the restaurant’s decor — the vintage-style paintings on the walls made me suspect it’s run by Chinese owners. Every table is served complimentary snacks that brought back memories of home. The portions are very generous and the value is great. The only downside is that the flavors are clearly adapted and quite different from authentic Chinese cuisine. For example, the cumin lamb we ordered had pears stir-fried in it, creating a mix of sweet, spicy, and salty that was hard to enjoy. But considering it’s a foreign country, the taste is acceptable. The owner was very friendly and the service was quick. If you’re truly looking for authentic Chinese food, just be aware it’s been adjusted for local tastes.

Went there last night and was drawn in by the retro vintage style and the pictures in the wall.once we sat down the waiter was so polite and our food came out very quick. The food was AMAZING. Everything was so flavoursome and at the end of the meal I was thinking of going to thank the chef. It was that good. Big portions though and this meant we got to have some for breakfast. Even better. Would definitely come back.

I really enjoyed this casual spot with no-nonsense quality food. That wok fired flavor is so yummy! I had Chow Fun noodles with tofu. It was perfection Just don’t be offended by their fortune cookies

Ohh, the food was excellent. It is one of the best spots prize compare to the quality! Especially in the overpriced area, like Venice. Portions are huge and the place is really cheap.
We ordered Fried Rice with beef and shrimp.

I ordered mapo tofu and dan dan noodles. The food is great and price is good. Highly recommended to those who love Chinese food.

We had high hopes, but Mao’s Kitchen didn’t really meet our expectations. We specifically asked for non-spicy dishes, but they still came out spicy, which made it hard to enjoy the meal. The portions were very large—too much, even by American standards.
Service during the meal was fast and simple, but the experience at checkout was uncomfortable. Coming from Europe, we’re not used to the tipping culture and usually tip based on the service. Since it wasn’t particularly good or attentive, we chose not to tip. The person who seemed to be the manager reprinted the check with the tip line left open and placed it back in front of us without a word. It felt passive-aggressive and awkward.
Overall, not a place we’d return to. The food was okay, but the service and atmosphere left a bad taste.

Great little vibe! 10/10 will be recommending at my shop. One dollar salad is definitely worth it. Only wish the dressing was a little closer to a vinaigrette. We ordered the kungpao chicken and WOW -DELICIOUS. Will be coming back to review more dishes. They give wontons for the table with a DELICIOUSSS sauce. Spring rolls are a must try ! The onion pancake was nothing like I’ve had before and it was a surprisingly tasty bite especially with the sauce it came from. Worth it for the quick stop after a long day of working. The ambiance was just my kind of vibe/lowkey place to eat with friends with good prices and a great portion of food. Thank you 🙂 will come again

I’m so glad this place is still here, as it brings me a lot of nostalgia from my old days living in Venice. It hasn’t changed a bit since 2010, which is great. The restaurant is super accommodating to different dietary choices, like vegan and gluten-free, because they make everything from scratch. Loved the hot and sour soup and mapo tofu. Plus even the rice puffs they put on the table are gluten-free! AND, the food was super affordable for the quality and portion size. The female employee who took served on Saturday night was so kind and helpful, and I was thrilled that the vibe was so chill at 5pm (only a few people sitting inside, but many take out orders).
