Been coming to this local spot for years. Its been great when the owner is around as he knows the propper prices and we talk cars. But this has got to be the last straw. One of the staff members was overcharging all the customers including myself. $10 for a blt on roll???!! Ok no problem. The menu states blt on a hero with chips and a soda as I pointed it out. The staff surely shows me a different menu witha. different price of $7.50.instead. ok…so what is it ??? Am I getting the chips and soda or you just want to charge whatever you like???the person then proceeds to Show me a little sign on the menu with a different name that says “prices will change”. It felt like a total discrimintory act if your not spanish speaking. FOLLOW YOUR MENU PRICES AND THERE WILL BE NO ISSUES.

The owner was quite a gentleman, he is also a very kind man with great customer service. He offered that I try what’s called a chopped cheese. It came with fries and a soda it was about $14. He gave me a Mayo ketchup sauce for the fries that he makes himself. Generous portion of fries and a phenomenal sandwich.I will absolutely be back, I was wowed today.

The only problem is at night there are no outdoor lights in the front of the very small plaza especially after they close and they close relatively early, 5pm. Not so much of a problem as the days get longer, but in the late fall n early winter would be nice if the lot where the building is located was lit in the front that way you’d know there’s a deli there that way even when it’s closed you’d know you could return during the day and be come a customer. A lot of traffic between 430pm and 5pm at the intersection so could be many new customers. Ijs

Battleground Deli receives the seal of approval of both me, the local, and the longtime NYC resident who moved to this town from NYC! The attitudes of the local family-run bodega you can depend on, along with the quality of the food being freshly made — sometimes even freshly chopped — is really excellent!
I came in here because someone else in this site mentioned being made a really excellent Chopped Cheese — I can only find one other place nearby that has chopped cheese whatsoever, even if it’s not on their permenant menu. Here, at Battleground Deli, it isn’t on their menu either — it’s one of those “if you know, you know” kind of menu items and “if they’ll make it, they’ll make it real good!” Needless to say, they indeed made it excellently — it’s so legitimate in the taste, seasoned very well and with a good amount of cheese and toppings! It is my go-to sandwich to get from here and no other place around has anything to match this!
My girlfriend, the longtime NYC resident, highly approves of the Chicken Parmigiana Sub — it greatly reminds her of home in the Bronx! The sauce, the breading of the chicken, the doneness— the elements so simple do so much for making this sandwich perfect and it’s really quite something to say that this is better than the area Italian restaurants’ equivalent, despite their all-day operations of serving this as one of their core dishes as well!
Battleground Deli has been here apparently all my life as a longtime resident of Manalapan and I am glad that, today, it still stands proud!

One of the best sandwiches you’ll find in Monmouth County! Z runs a great shop, fast & easy – no complains. My only issue is the lack of drink selection however the food makes up for it !

Excellent local deli. My go to, fried egg/cheese on a bagel is always good. Friendly staff, never an issue. Coffee is good as well – sometimes these types of deli’s are hit/miss, but I’ve never had a bad cup here.
