Easily the best sushi place in town. Always my go-to. The space is authentic, the owner is very friendly and genuine. And the sushi is outstanding quality – fresh and delicious.

I am so glad I tried this restaurant before leaving Smithers. I had the nigiri combo with dynamite roll and miso soup. Tasty miso soup, lots of tofu too. Definitely try the toro and unagi nigiri. It’s in an old building so the floors are very creaky. Food is worth the price!

I decided to give myself a treat and take me to have sushi. Returning from my visit I decided to go there again.
Right as I entered the build was a really awkward greeting. I have no idea why the waitress made it that way. The place was quite. She forget to ask for drinks and when asking what she recommended on the menu, her response was weak.
The floor is also very creaky and when people walk pass you it’s like an earthquake!
Being there twice I had two totally different experience.
The food is very good. I really enjoy their sashimi, paired up with a warm bowl of miso soup.
This one waitress really killed my vibe, maybe bring a friend or two. I didn’t want to be too harsh as the food is amazing.

The nigiri was thick cut and melt in your mouth tender. The miso soup wasn’t as creamy as I prefer but was flavourful with lots of tofu. The chicken curry special was flavourful and a good warmth spicy. The green tea was lovely. I wanted more than the one pot.

What a charming place. We had a delicious meal. The quality of the sushi was all very good, particularly the tuna sashimi. The waitress was super friendly, attentive & the food came out quickly. I would not hesitate to recommend it to others & I am just sorry that we do not live in the area, as we would love to visit it regularly.

I dine here every time I come to town which is a couple times a year. I once did a huge take-out order that fed 10 people and everything was wonderful. I love the variety of rolls and some very unique ones worth trying. Smoked tuna sashimi was amazing! Mas is friendly and consistently whips up some great dishes.

Having lived in Japan, I tried many of the dishes shown in my photos which I ate this evening. Masa, the owner was absolutely kind and a real pleasure to speak Japanese with this evening. He definitely adds his own flair and original mouth watering flavours to each of his dishes.
He cooks with his heart and soul, explained clearly as the beautiful presentation of each dish is placed before you. As he prepares each plate with care, the years of experience he has in the kitchen becomes apparent. Each item is picture perfect, and enjoyable to taste.
I was delighted to have this creativity placed in front of me after I had asked for some recommended menu items, it made this meal and experience something I will not forget!
If you want to experience real Japanese cuisine, there is no doubt you can find it at Masa Yama.

So, came to town for an appointment. It’s been a long time since I sat down and had lunch by myself. Jason thanks for recommending Masa Yama it was exactly what I needed. Sat down had some tea. Lovely. Bowl of miso soup, boom great. Then had the lunch special dynamite roll. It was perfect. Service was as it should be, not too much but still good. I loved the atmosphere Thursday lunch nailed it.

Food was delicious although the price for each roll made the bill pretty steep for 2 people. Despite that the variety of rolls made it difficult to choose just a few, we wanted to try them all. We’ll definitely come back to try more of them.

The prices are reasonable, but can be a bit pricey, but many specials are offered. Masa makes authentic Japanese food. It is really delicious. I recommend the fish and sake, not the ramen. We have eaten here more than thirty times.
