I have been searching high and low for good laksa in the Portland area. I am picky about this particular soup. The options are limited and I have not been impressed with what I’ve found – until today.
Friendship Kitchen absolutely nailed it. Delicious, bursting with flavor, just the right amount of funky sweet/spicy/umami. Great, welcoming service too. I’ll be returning!

I found this place on an Eater list, “The Hottest New Restaurants in Portland, March 2024”. Everything we ordered from the Egg rolls, Shaken Beef to the Singapore Chicken Rice were so good! I would definitely come back. I also ordered a passionfruit fizz which was refreshing. The vibe was cute, small but didn’t feel cramped. It would be a great place for a nice little dinner date.

I’ve been craving Singaporean Chili Crab, and theres almost no other place that serves it. It’s one of my favorite food since visiting Singapore (I was not expecting that quality though). The crab was very dry and unflavorful. I did request for extra sauce after and they said the sauce was cooked with it. For the price, I dont think I would ever order again. However, the owner see.ed very sweet. She threw in free sesame balls for the wait.
I would probably try it again one more time, but the experience was definitely not worth $100

I visited for lunch and it was so good! Cute little restaurant with some nice patio seating for warmer months. I got the northern pho and it was great – very large and awesome broth. Also had the vegan egg rolls and they were very tasty! Multiple vegan options for those that want. I’ll be visiting again.

Absolutely loved everything about Friendship Kitchen. The food was delicious and the server was so patient with our family of 5 (three kids under 7). This was our first visit and we ordered 3 different plates- none disappointed. Everything was delicious. Looking forward to going back.

Formerly Alouette, FK NW is located in the same space and is the second iteration of Friendship Kitchen & the menu features dishes I would personally eat on a regular basis. The cuisine is Vietnamese & Singaporean inspired, a cross between owners & partners Trang Nguyen’s & Wei-En Tan’s heritages.
Mama’s Laksa was my fave! It’s a coconut milk based curry noodle soup with shrimp, tofu, soft-boiled egg, bean sprouts, fishballs, rice noodles & a slick of chile oil floating on top. It’s a robust in flavor – savory with a touch of sweet, creamy, and seafood forward. Very comforting & perfect on a rainy day and came out piping hot. My husband also really liked the Shaken Beef which had good flavor.
The Crazy Rich Asians cocktail is almost too pretty to drink with gorgeous edible glitter floating throughout the glass.
The service was also good. The server and bartender were both very nice and down to earth. I will definitely come back to try more dishes!

There’s not a lot of places in Portland that serves Singaporean food so I had to come check this place out!
Food:
Singapore Satay – The chicken was super juicy and had a great lemongrass flavor.
Mama’s Laksa – If this was the only dish I got, I would’ve finished this dish to the last drop. This dish was so warm, inviting, and flavorful. I also liked the Vietnamese herbs that was on top.
Nasi Lemak – The fried anchovies with peanuts changed my life.
Service:
The staff and the owners were friendly and inviting from when we walked in to when we left. They would check up on us often and make sure we were taken care of.

Took the family and mom here for Mothers Day. The Chili crab was soooo DELICIOUS! I wasn’t sure because of the price but we had enough people we’d split it and it was totally yummy and worth it. Great flavor of the crab, sweet and firm. Really saucy covering on crab, they offer you bids and gloves. Noodles under the crab was also really good. I’ve loved every dish here.

The food from this place is phenomenal! That’s coming from someone who grew up with Vietnamese parents who cooked bomb food. That being said, GET THE LAKSA SOUP! It’s so good! My only regret is not ordering another laksa to take home.
Atmosphere is great, drinks are delicious (I got the Crazy Rich Asian drink), and the service is top notch. Highly recommend and will be coming back soon.
